Harmony Hotel

by bangkokjim

After arriving in a semi sleepy state at 3.50 AM to Addis Ababa airport, I wandered over to the Harmony Hotel kiosk and a kind woman there arranged for the hotel shuttle to collect me and take me to the hotel. At first the office help told me that my checkout time was at 12.00 noon that day as they were counting my reservation from the night before. However, when I was about to check out the day office manager told me that I was invited to stay an extra night at no charge since my arrival time at 4.00 AM. They were all VERY KIND and helpful to me, my room was ok( but very noisy at night from chatter and laughing from the late night staff in other rooms and construction of some kind in the neighbourhood at night!!) but the breakfast was really very nice and sitting in the dining room gave a feeling of staying at an old manor home.

nice modern sauna, a fitness room with a very helpful fitness training lad, although the hotel building was new the interior design and way the building was gave the feeling I was staying in an old manor home before it was a hotel.

Jupiter Hotel - Cazanchise: Jupiter Hotel - Bringing Guests home

by GourmeTraveller

A great hotel to unwind after a long and tedious trip, the second you enter the hotels reception you already know you are in very capable hands. Efficient and great staff from the guard on the outside, the ever friendly porter to the professional and experienced management team will ensure that your stay is nothing but what you’re would expect from sheer luxury. A very service orientated establishment where all guests are treated to unparallel attention and great hospitality. Every room is well appointed and every care is ensured. Without a doubt a great hotel to spend a few days or a few months as I have. A hotel where staff genuinely cares about your individual comfort and well being.

The hotel boasts a newly equipped gym, steam and sauna with great views of the city center and the ever beautiful mountain range. The meals prepared at this hotels restaurant is par excellence, every meal prepared by the highly experienced chef is a masterpiece on its own. No meal will ever disappoint and the chef with his over 30 years experience will ensure nothing but his absolute personal culinary experience preparing each dish ensuring great dining moments.

Theodoros Hotel, Harar --the worst hotel ....

by elsadran

Theodoros Hotel was the worst hotel in my life. The room was awfully dirty, the bedsheets were not washed, and the bathroom were full of the previous guests “leftovers”... The water cuts were a norm and when I complained the receptionist threw me out of the reception and went on sleeping... Even though it was a festivity day this condition is unacceptable for 100 b. a room...

Ras Hotel - Harar

by elsadran

I found this hotel very warm and pleasant although others think the corridor with the room doors and the rooms themselves resemble a Russian prison... Me, maybe because of the polite, efficient and helpful staff or maybe because I had a good time, I found the rooms cozy and comfortable. The rooms on the back side are much better because they are sunny and quiet. They cost only 70b and they have private bathroom with hot water, which follows a time schedule as in many hotels in the country.
It is outside the old city near the traffic lights - the only ones in Harar...
The restaurant has good food, very good service, and a very pleasant terrace that looks on the green garden, for a breezy meal.

Ras Hotel - Dire Dawa

by elsadran

In Dire Dawa I had a very pleasant stay in Ras Hotel (not Dire Dawa Ras Hotel) which the taxi drivers mention as Ras Hotel no 2.
It has a spacious yard with trees and fresh air, something rare in this hot, dusty city. The food in the restaurant is satisfactory, the prices are decent and the service is very good. Most rooms are equipped with a small balcony where we gather with friends to spend some easy time talking and ...chatting!
The rooms are big, with good beds, private bathrooms with hot water, local TV and mosquito nets. Double rooms are 100birr.
Dire Dawa Ras Hotel is more luxurious and more expensive but in my opinion it is only good for a cup of coffee in its beautiful garden.

The photo is irrelevant..

Zion Train Lodge - Shashemene

by elsadran

One of the most interesting hotels I saw in Ethiopia. The huts are all built in a traditional style but they are very comfortable inside. The owners are a nice couple, Alex and Sandrine, with kids. The whole atmosphere persuades you to follow the healthy way of life they are recommending.
It is found in Oromia Region, which is the heart of “Jamaica” as the region is called, in Shashemene. This area is mostly inhabited by Rastafarian people who had initially come from Jamaica, when Haile Selassie was ruling the country.
There is a lush garden around the huts which are built with wood, bamboo with thatched roofs. Inside they have all the comforts we need, and hot showers. The restaurant is run by the couple who cook mainly vegetarian food using mostly organic products from their garden. Bread is baked in a wooden oven and made with wholemeal flour. This is a paradise for healthy food eaters!
We had long walks in the river and fields around the lodge enjoying the fresh air and the smiling Rastafarian children playing around.
They also have some horses in the hotel stables so that you can have a horseback ride!
It is only 4km from the town of Shashemene and 250km from Addis Ababa. They also have a minibus for tours and excursions around the area.
Room prices are 70-120b.

Adama Makonnen Hotel and Restaurant - Nazret

by elsadran

This was one of the most pleasant hotels I have stayed. The price was very good for such a comfortable place only because Nazret doesn't attract many tourists.
The best restaurant in the city for my tastes and in even the locals' opinion is the restaurant in this hotel. Breakfast is included in the price and it is served in the fresh and pleasant courtyard under a beautiful pergola. The staff is very polite and most of them are very professional. There is a European touch in their well prepared food. I liked roasted lamb (45b), Russian salad, and tagliatelle with tomato or meat sauce. (33b)
We paid 167b for a double room with breakfast. The carpeted room was very bright and very clean, with very comfortable beds, satellite TV with a lot of channels and private bathroom with hot water.

Kaleb Hotel - Aksum

by elsadran

I had one of the most pleasant time there. It was because of the leafy garden, the warmth of the owners, the nice atmosphere of the bar in the evening, when we gulped down a few shots of tequila, the beautiful birds with the velvet blue-green feathers that kept on singing all day and sometimes even at night..I don't know. But I felt really relaxed and happy with the place.
The rooms are nothing special although they are spacious and those with private bathrooms have continuous hot water. All the tenants of these rooms were very contented. The opposite side has rooms with common bathrooms, and I heard some complaints. But I have to tell you that the owner has a plan to fix the common bathroom system.
Rooms with bathrooms cost 70b and without 50b.

Woldu Sibagdes Modern Hotel - Adigrat

by elsadran

We stayed at Woldu Sibagdes Modern Hotel, in Adigrat . I will not forget this hotel because of the warm welcome and the flawless hospitality of the owner, a very nice lady, who took care of us like an old friend, showed us great respect, and invited us to dinner, cooking a special traditional dish called “talo”.
She was so perfect that we had no heart to complain when the cars inside the internal yard woke us up with their suffocating exhaust fumes and the terrible noise. Unfortunately this happened very often in Ethiopia because the hotels use their internal yard as a parking space....
The rooms are very simple but clean and tidy. They all open in the balconies in the internal yard

Her name is Helen Girmay and she is perfect! Call her! Email: helenzz@yahoo.com mob: 0344452275/0913001291

Gebar Shire Hotel, Shire

by elsadran

In Shire we decided to go to a good hotel as we were very tired and very sick of water cuts and we wanted to have a good hot bath.
This hotel is said to be the best in Shire and indeed it is pleasant and comfortable with the exception of the beds..which are far from that..They were really so hard that I had to put my sleeping bag and all my soft clothes on my bed before I could sleep on it...
Anyway the room was excellent, bright and airy with very nice views of the town.
The restaurant was also very acceptable.
The price with no breakfast is 294 birr for a single, 336b for a double and 360b for a VIP room, for tourists. For locals is 30% less.
It is located on the main street and everybody in the city knows where it is.
