TASCO GUEST HOUSE: WORST HOTEL EVER IN KUMASI
I COULD NOT STAY IN THIS HOTEL BECAUSE IT WAS FULL OF PROSTITUTES MOST ESPECIALLY NIGERIAN GIRLS. THEY ONLY HAVE TWO ROOMS FOR LETTING BECAUSE EVERY OTHER ROOMS OCCUPIED BY THE NIGERIAN PROSTITUTES IN GHANA. I JUST WONDER WHAT THE GHANA GOVERNMENT ARE DOING TO CURB THIS ACT. BUT THE HOTEL ITSELF IS WASHOUT, NO GOOD THING ABOUT IT.THE ENVIRONMENT LOOKS LIKE ITS PIG THAT STAYS IN THERE. REALLY BAD!
Unique Quality: NOTHING GOOD ABOUT THIS HOTEL

Crystal Rose Hotel, Kumasi: Crystal Rose Hotel, Kumasi
I work with businesses in West Africa, but am from Ireland originally. Originally when I arrived in Kumasi, i did not know of the Crystal Rose Hotel. Instead I made the mistake of staying at another hotel, the Pink Panther, where food, service and rooms were not good (service was really bad unfortunately).
What a breath of fresh air the Crystal Rose Hotel, Kumasi was.
When I arrived, everyone was smiling, nice start.
They immediately impressed me by stating that their wish was that I always use the Crystal Rose Hotel, when in Kumasi.
The Manager, John I believe, enquired as to whether I would need a corporate rate for frequent stays, very helpful.
The Receptionist asked me where I was from, and proceeded to chat about all the interesting guests they have had, and all the countries they have had at the Crystal Rose. She was super professional, and good humoured.
The first things I noticed about the Crystal Rose Hotel were:
the Internet / Wifi was free, fast and easy to use, in the room and outside too.
This is important for me because in the Pink Panther Internet did not work - anywhere. Also in the 5star Golden Tulip, Kumasi, the internet requires a long and arduous registration AND costs 12 US Dollars per hour - crazy prices.
The pool at the Crystal Rose Hotel is at the centre of the complex. It's well designed, clean and makes an atmospheric place to relax with a drink in the cool, sunny weather of Kumasi.
I noticed 3 people who were obviously repeat customers checking in whilst I was there. One Chinese, one British, and one Australian. All were greeted like they were friends. This is a fantastic sign in any hotel.
The food in the hotel is a mix of European standard food and tasty African (chicken, rice, pasta, sandwiches, meat kebabs etc)
It's tasty, very cheap (compared with Accra, Lagos or Ouagadougou), and served with a smile.
The room I had (1st floor) was huge - like a suite. Clean, cool A/C, and working DSTV, Wifi, Minibar, and a huge African sized comfortable bed. Everything I need was there, and nothing I didn't.
Unlike the Golden Tulip, where aggressive taxi men fight for your business when you step outside (i had no car with me), at the Crystal Rose Hotel, they simply call one for you, and they were always polite, obviously knowing the hotel and respecting it's clientele.
Noise was not a problem either, unlike the Pink Panther (really really noisy).
In Africa, sometimes electricity is cut in towns and cities, and sure enough it happened whilst i was at the Crystal Rose Hotel in Kumasi too. (the whole neighbourhood went out)...but..just 2 or 5 seconds later, the lights were back, and they told me they had a very powerful generator so electricity outages are never an issue.
Location of the hotel is really good in my opinion. Real close to Kumasi centre, less traffic hassles, calm neighbourhood with a gas station and convenience store within 100 metres.
So...in conclusion, if you want a great, comfortable, free-wifi, nice pool in Kumasi - with really very friendly and helpful staff - i really can recommend the Crystal Rose. In Africa service is not always perfect, but here is as good as the finest hotels in Paris, London, or New York (that i have stayed in).
Finally, i recommend you don't waste your money on the Golden Tulip. It's a great 5 star hotel, but it's not as calm and relaxed as the Crystal Rose, and it costs far far less. Like 75% less!
Criticisms? Only one, the spa is not ready yet, opening soon i hear, but at 40-50 dollars a night, can i really complain about that? I don't think so.
Unique Quality: Really Great Staff...like amazing
Good location
Priced at 3 star, feels like 4 star
Nice Pool
Cheap food and drinks - half price of Accra

Crystal Rose Hotel: confusion in name
bdinphoenix wrote very bad things concerning Crystal Rose Hotel on October 3, 2007 but i stand to make a few corrections so not to confuse guests.
there are two Crystal Rose Hotels in kumasi-they are close to each other anyway-just about 2mins drive apart. the mother hotel (located at Ahodwo) is currently under renovation whiles the other branch (located at Daban, close to Unity Oil filling station) is owned by Crystal Innovations Ltd, management since 2010.
i was surprised at the staff quality, smartness to duty and wonderful breakfast they serve on time and it's premises offers the best environment for peaceful relaxation.
Unique Quality: this(Innovations @ Crystal Rose Hotel, Daban) is a 3-star hotel with a very cozy environment.it has a total of 19 air conditioned rooms comprising 9singles, 5doubles, 3twins and 2suites. it is bed and breakfast. it also has a classy restaurant, swimming pool, pool bar, audio-visual conference facility (just for 60pax),laundry spacious car park, wireless internet, DSTV, intercom, hot/cold shower, standby generator,24hr security.
their kitchen/restaurant offers delicious meals and the hotel is patronised by many corporate bodies in kumasi. their rooms are very spacious and comfortable and they provide giant screen movies/football matches at the poolside every evening making my stay there very pleasant.
i think people who dont know this hotel should try it out or if you are an old guest, try out their new and improved services, then you can judge.

Crystal Rose Hotel: Worst Hotel In Ghana
The Crystal Rose Hotel may be the worst hotel in the world, not just in Ghana. Where to start. The roof leaked, right above the bed. The bed was uncomfortable. The toilets were turned off every night about 10PM and the front desk would not turn them back on until the next morning. The ground level windows did not lock and the curtains did not cover the windows adequately. The air conditioner leaked onto the floor and the furniture in the hotel room. Toilet paper had to be requested every day because room "service" would not leave any on their own. The final insult was when the hotel management permitted street vendors to come into the hotel to sell their wares. The vendors did this during meals, in the lobby and just about any place else they spotted a guest. The only good thing here was the food was decent. Only stay at the Crystal Rose if you wish to be miserable.
Unique Quality: The people were friendly but they did nothing to alleviate their many problems.

Presbyterian Guesthouse: Presbyterian Guesthouse
After going away at Tasco Guesthouse, the nearby Presbyterian Guesthouse (or Presby's) was the next option, and a much better one. Presby's is situated in a former missionary's building that was built by the British at "Mission Road". The building still looks fantastic and especially at the back, with a green lawn, you can't imagine being in a huge city like Kumasi.
The guesthouse charges 80.000 cedis per night for a double bedroom with shared accommodations. These toilets and showers are very decent and there are enough of them, so the fact that it's shared is not even a problem.
The room has two single bed a closet and a small table, and that is all you need. The terrain is guarded 24/7 so at least you know it's safe.
From the guesthouse it is a 5 minutes walk to the citycentre with restaurants and bars.
