Hotel Shangri-La

Pleasing African style hotel near Accra Airport

I stayed here back in 2004 for a few nights. The hotel provides a minibus collection service from the airport which is actually only about 10 minutes from the hotel.
I was amazed at the size of the comfortable chalet style room that had air conditioning, all the usual bathroom facilities and a bar fridge.
The food was OK and I was pleased to see that I could try some local Ghanaian dishes as well as more international style food.
There was a large swimming pool and tennis courts.
The feature I liked most was that on the Friday night they had a small band playing out in the well maintained and attractive gardens. The band played a mix of Ghanaian and western songs. It was great to arrive from a cold damp, England in Autumn to the warm, welcoming atmosphere of west Africa.

Unique Quality: African in style, smallish ( 52 rooms) and friendly. Not in anyway an international chain hotel without character but I thought the facilities/services were comparable to other UK hotels I've stayed in.
