New Haven Hotel: Friendly, comfortable, clean, safe and convenient
This hotel is well located (we walked on a number of occasions to the Circle, passing a large internet cafe on the way. I think it took about 20 minutes or so). There is a bar, restaurant and pleasant shady outdoor seating area. The restaurant has an extensive menu and includes English as well as local dishes. Mariam, the manageress, is a really nice lady and told me that they are planning to offer the option of having breakfast served in the room, also to provide Bed and Breakfast as opposed to just room only rates.
The hotel has a variety of rooms - from the Standard single room at 15 cedi, standard double at 28 to the superior double at 35 cedis. There is airconditioning and fridge in some rooms, fans in others. The hotel is in enclosed grounds and very safe from intruders.
Their web site should be up and running shortly (as at 21/02/09).
I would definitely recommend this hotel with its very helpful and friendly staff

Beautifull, real african style, with european quality, and very affordable prices.
The staff are all extremely friendly, helpful and courteous.
The swimming pool and sunlounge area are super,... clean and inviting on a hot sunny day - with pool attendants on hand.
Featuring all international standards and facilities for business and relaxation: satellite TV, fan, telephone, air-conditioning and of course a bathroom with bath, shower and toilet.
Laundry and dry cleaning services are available on request. For long staying guests or those seeking more spaciousness, they will offer you, beside the Standard and the Deluxe rooms; Corner and Seaside suites.
However each room has its own private balcony, all with a great view of the Atlantic Ocean and the exotic garden.
If your coming for a visit to Accra and want some creature comforts at a good standard, but at an affordable price this is the place to come.

Legassi Gardens: Accomodations Off the Beaten Path
I stayed in Accra for two weeks. Though Legassi Gardens is a little "off the beaten path", my stay was very good. I didn't learn to take full advantage of my accomodations until halfway through my visit. The service was great. The owner was responsive and the staff cooperative and attentive to any needs. There wasn't any air conditioning, but they did provide a noisy fan. I was staying in what was basically a two-bedroom apartment with a kitchen, living room, and a bathroom. The compound had a secure gate which was locked at night or watched by the staff. The environment was quiet, compared to the noise of the city. Initially, I thought I made a mistake and my guide almost talked me into going to another place, inside the city, but I figured out that I was in a safe, secure location away from the hustle and bustle of the central city (Legassi Gardens is about 20 minutes North of Accra Central). On the compound was a store with whatever immediate items one might need (soap, some food items, and beer). Also on the compound is a vegetarian restuarant. The linen was a little worn and dingy and the plumbing could be better (no hot water, but a cold shower was welcomed by me daily and nightly, due to the heat).
The smart thing to do is to hire you a cook/maid for very little. The owner will provide a ride to and from the airport which, depending on the traffic, one can get to and from there in 30 minutes or less.
The best feature about Legassi Gardens is the staff can get you whatever you may need and it is a secure place. In the city one may have to worry about theft, noise from the streets, and other issues. Guests will also lose weight walking back and forth to Pokause Junction, unless one is lazy and rides the taxi back and forth to the junction. The roads leading to the compound are dirt roads and you will meet the local residents as you walk around.
One thing to note, I travel like a soldier and not a tourist.
