The Mole Hotel is located inside the National Park.
If it is possible you should book in advance, but when there are rooms vacant at your arrival, you don't have to worry.
The accommodation is alright and I can't complain of the kitchen.
Enjoy your stay and watch out for the Baboons!!!

  • Although there is a hotel at the park with a real nasty pool and a restuarant that serves Euro-American food. I was rather staying inthe village of Larabanga a few kilometers away and accesible by bicycle due to the fact that electricity goes off at night

I lived in a mud house for the first time in my life what is so unique about it is that When it's very hot outside It is cool in the mudhouse and vice versa. I just wondered how this works

Mole Motel is the only accommodation actually inside the park. There are two different types of accommodation – we stayed in the cheaper end! Our rooms were part of a block of about ten rooms, with a small veranda outside, with two chairs, overlooking the escarpment. From there we could see many birds and lizards and on a couple of occasions, a family of warthogs.

The rooms were nice and big, with a ceiling fan which was quite efficient, two single beds, a writing desk, a cupboard and a bathroom. Water was sadly lacking. We did have a trickle of water a couple of times, and managed to fill the buckets that were provided (see tip under the Warning or Dangers heading for more details).

Food is available (see the Restaurant tips for more details), and there is a delightful pool where you can relax. The hotel is situated on the top of the escarpment, overlooking the flat savannah plains where many game frequent. An ideal base for a walking safari - which can be arranged through the hotel).

Water is only available from 06:00 - 10:00 and 18:00 - 22:00, and even then it is more luck than judgement. Outside those hours it's bucket showers only! Try to keep some water back for flushing the toilets.

Mole Hotel is perched on a hill that overlooks a lake where animals frequent. We were able to get a drink and watch the animals during mid-day. The hotel has an old swimming pool, but I didn't bother to swim in it. Other hotel patrons did however, and found it refreshing. The Hotel Restaurant prepares a limited menu of some excellent breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. At dinner, non-endangered wild game was sometimes on the menu. The hotel also rents bicycles which can be ridden along the main (unpaved) road leading back to Larabanga only. Nightlife is rather dull at Mole, unfortunately.

Basically there are two classes of accommodations: those with and those without air conditioning. The first class Chalets are separate buildings and have private shower and toilet and AC, but the fixtures leak and the AC was limited in the cool air it put out. First class also have a some advantage for viewing game from a small private patio, which we didn't bother to use, but we were able to take our chairs down to the overlook that was within a few steps. The lesser class accomodations have concrete floors and apparently depend upon fan to keep mosquitos away. Boarders share the shower and toilet facilities. Since the price of the first class accommodations for a double was about $25-, as I recall, I didn't quibble over money and ordered first class. However the women we traveled with opted for lower class accommodations, and I don't recall any complaints. I'm surprised that the Ghana government hasn't put more money into this potentially lucrative tourist attraction. The location of the hotel is great.

  • There is also a dormitory at the Mole Hotel.
You can use all the hotel facilities but at night it could be very crowded in the sleeping rooms.

  • The only place to sleep in the park is Mole Motel. Quite a decent place to sleep, but quite expensive too, for Ghanaian standards that is. For a family rooms with 3 beds you pay 220.000 cedis a night ($22 US). It is possible to add extra matrasses lying on the floor. That costs 80.000 cedis per person. The rooms are very spacious, so even if you add 3 extra matrasses you will have plenty of space left. The rooms have a fan, a shower/bath and a toilet.

If you are single of a couple a bed in the dormitory is another option. Beds here cost 90.000 cedis per person, per night.

The surroundings and the Motel's pool make it to a great stay!
