Premier Lodge: Great New Hotel in Bolga

The Premier Lodge on Navarango Road in Bolgatanga would be my first choice if available. It was the newest hotel in the Fall of 2010. Rooms are large, well lit and pleasant. Most had private bathrooms. Other amenities include wireless and normal internet, satellite TV, air conditioning, shared TV room, Dining room, and a lovely veranda in an encloded courtyard. Clean and well kept. It offers a warm and inviting stay at great prices which ranged from about $20 to $35 dollars US a day when I was there in November 2010. This includes breakfast each morning, consisting of egg, bread, and tea.

Air conditioning, internet, satellite TV and private bathrooms. All staff speaks English and are most helpful and pleasant!

Siralodge: Siralodge can be described as a nest of good taste

Very enjoyable and like home away from home! Siralodge recently got rated as the best 1 Star Hotel in the Savanna Area (the northern, upper east and upper west regions of Ghana) for 2008.

Siralodge generally has a clean environment and well trained personnel to handle guests. There is a live-in caretaker who is present 24/7 to attend to guests. Siralodge has among other services:

Bed & Breakfast
Internet facilities (at your request)
Car Rentals
Car Park
Courtyard Bar
DSTV
Laundry
Health and Fitness Facilities

Nsanmini Guesthouse: Nsanmini Guesthouse

The quite new guesthouse Nsanmini where I spent my night in Bolga, really is great value for money with the only 45.000 cedis ($ 4,5) I paid for it. For that amount you get a double room with fan, and you can use the shared - and very neat - showers and toilets.

The guesthouse has a nice, quiet, inner square: a nice place to sit in the evening. The place is quite difficult to find, but if you look for the signboard at the westside of the mainroad towards Navrongo/Paga, and from there you ask for the guesthouse, it will not be any problem to find it.

You can order drinks in the guesthouse, and the good restaurant "Swad Fast Food" is only a few hundred meters away towards the north.

Cheap, quiet, and a very pleasant atmosphere

Sand Gardens Hotel: Sand Gardens has the layout of a resort motel

I just stopped by to pick up a friend who was staying there, but I was favorably impressed by the lay out and rooms. I didn't see any reason why one would need to book ahead to get a room, despite the popularity of the place.

I recall that the prices were posted in the lobby. My understanding is that this hotel is one of the older ones in town, but it appeared to be well maintained. The Sand Gardens Hotel had an outdoor patio restaurant.

Grace and Glory Guest House: Grace and Glory Guest House Catholic Social Center

Although it's called a "guest house", the Grace and Glory guesthouse is more like a small conference center with a few rooms and a kitchen. Located out of town, you'll need to hitch a ride with someone who works there. We were served breakfast, but we ate lunch and dinner out. The room was comfortable and had AC. The bathroom was a shared situation, but we were the only guests at the time. There were a couple of self-contained rooms with bathrooms as well.

There's a pleasant garden and the guest house is situated on the outskirts of town in a small neighborhood.

St. Joseph Hotel, Bolgatanga

This is probably the most popular hotel and for a good reason. Why?

1. Cheap: Clean double s/c room with AC and TV for $7 a night; channels include one of Africas best: Tanzanian based ITV.

2. Central: next to market, lorry park and main street;

3. Bar: not special but has large variety of icecold beers. Very popular so good to meet locals;

4. Food: not great, but there's not much choice in Bolga otherwise. Served every day but not on Sundays; simple meals for about $1,50.

5. Friendly: helpful and friendly staff.

A good choice, but be careful with the A/C. I set it one night on 17 degrees with outside 38; Suffered from bad cold for 2 days.

The cheaper rooms are run down and rather bad value.
