Kunateh Lodge: Kunateh Lodge

The Kunateh Lodge is the only place where I've slept in Wa, but if you are going there I have one advice: choose a different one! You will find Kunateh Lodge at about a 5 minutes walk from the central Tro-Tro station, towards the south.

The rooms in this guesthouse are spacious, and have a TV in it. But that are about the only advantages of this place. The toilet- and shower facilities are dirty, the shower hardly gives water, and what comes out is cold. The beds in the bedroom are big, but the matrasses are disgusting, as well as the pillows and there are no sheets you can use: so bring your own!

And the worst thing about Kunateh Lodge is: the price is way overpriced! For one night in a self-contained twin bedroom you pay 150.000 cedis ($15,-) which is extremely much for Ghanaian standards. I don't know if there are cheaper places to sleep in Wa, but for that amount of money there have to be better place at least!

Upland Hotel: Wa's Best Hotel

Most of the guests at this hotel are businessmen from Burkina Faso, Kumasi, or Accra. The Hotel Rooms are rustic, but quiet adequate. We had to share a shower down the hall, but that was OK. The restaurant at this hotel provided the best basic meal we had while in Wa. One can choose a room with or without A/C, but in Wa, A/C is highly recommended to avoid the mosquitoes. Price? Depending upon room quality ranges from about $10-25 dollars. Incidentally, there is an internet cafe in town that has a good connection.

Unique Quality: The Hotel is a series of single story buildings built around a central restaurant and entertainment area. I believe there was a pool as well, but we didn't use it. In the lobby of the hotel is a television set. The hotel can help arrange for getting a driver or provide other travel related information. Don't get your hope up if you demand American style hotels in this part of Ghana: They simply don't exist. But, this is a good as Wa can produce. Sorry I don't have a picture of it. There are cheaper places to stay in town, of course.
