Lou Moon Lodge: Got severely sick!
Great service by staff, quite beach, overpriced and unique setting.
My partner and I got extremely sick from food poisoning. It was so severe, my husband ended up in a hospital in Accra. We have concluded that it was the fish we had the first night we dined there. Seafood was the only option that night. We figured out it was probably that because it was the only thing we both shared. By curiosity we asked the owner where he got his seafood from and as it turns out the village besides the hotel provides him with the "fresh" products.
We travel a lot and we have never experienced food intoxication.
If you're going there with children, please be extra careful.

Lue Loon Hotel: Surprising well done
Lue Loon Hotel is very well located and has great rooms, especially the ones located on the private island are unique. The european owner lives there and runs it in a perfect way. Good for lunch or dinner as well if you live nearby.
definetely a place worth it's money!

Axim Beach Hotel: Gold Coast and cheap service
Axim Beach Hotel has all it needs to be the perfect place, but a bad manager destroys it all. We were charged $ 10,- per night per room more than agreed (and as showm in the official price list) for "new" air conditions that were so old that 3 out of 4 didn't even work. On top you pay for all other extras (juice for breakfast, beachtowel,...) and the coffee is undrinkable.

Ankobra Beach Resort: Paradise near Axim
A few km to the West of Axim is this wonderful, ecologically managed beach resort. No huge crowds however, but well maintained huts/chalets, hidden in a coconut forest just next to the beach, from where you can have a wild swim under overhanging coconut trees or enjoy the panorama with the fort in Axim in the background.
Their restaurant is fine, with a perfect service and delicious lobsters!! The hotel and restaurant are not the cheapest in Ghana, but if you want a change from an overload of lousy budget hotels, take it here!
You can ask to see the remains of what was once Ankobra Fort. A local guard will weed his way through the bush with a cutlass. On a nearby hill you can still see some brick foundations of this old Dutch fort. The Dutch set it ablaze when they gathered tribal leaders to discuss the slave trade. But if every time it is visited, the guard takes some bricks with him, in a year or so there won't be anything left, I fear.
