A great place to watch animals at the salt lick
The rooms are like cabins in a ship. You sit in a darkened, soundproof lounge at the end of the hotel, facing the salt lick, watching herds of animals. It is amazing.

Unique Quality: This unique game lodge overlooks a floodlit waterhole and salt lick which attracts a host of wildlife - elephant, rhino, leopard, bushbuck and occasionally an elusive bongo or giant forest hog. Resembling and named after Noah's Ark, The Ark comprises three decks from which numerous balconies and lounges provide superb vantage points for game viewing. A ground level bunker provides excellent photographic opportunities and takes you closer than you would believe possible to the animals.
The Ark, a lodge built in the shape of Noah's Ark is situated in the heart of the Aberdares National Park and overlooks a waterhole and salt lick which attracks various wildlife.
The Ark has cabin-styled rooms with private bathrooms with shower and a beautiful view of the forest waterhole. There are several game viewing areas from which to observe the wildlife. There is a ground level hide where you'll literally come face to face with animals. If one of the 'Big Five' arrives at the waterhole you can hear a buzzer in your room.

My family and I - Americans - just arrived in Nairobi to live and work. Because it's too far and too expensive to visit family in the U.S. for Christmas, we are staying here, but we have the entire week of Christmas free.
Anybody have any suggestions on what we could do? We can't leave the country because of our visas, but we'd be happy to explore within Kenya.
Also, this is more of a question of whether we can find anything for Christmas at this late date. Anybody know if anything (on the beach, at a gamepark) would be available?
Hi there ! Try to go to the coast for a real treat!? white sandy beaches , and lot's of exellent food. My favouriteplace is Diani Beach - see my Kenyapages!
Merry Christmas
You might have left it a bit late too book into popular hotels and lodges over the Christmas period. Personally, I'd try and go on safari.
Agreed with the previous poster.
Try and go on a safari. We recomend a fantastic tour company on our pages.
If you have a week, try and split it between Mara (2 1/2 days), Lake Nakuru 1 day, The Ark (Aberdares) 1 day.
This only gives you 5 days.
Additionally, and much closer to Nairobi, Amboseli, Tsavo.
I'd try and go for the Mara, I can imagine Christmas at the Mara...(sigh)
