Hotel in Mombassa South Coast
by smcparland about Travellers Tiwi Beach
The Travellers Tiwi Beach hotel is an all inclusive hotel with a lovely long pool with slides and whirlpools. There are daily games, a buffet and themed restaurants (the Chinese restaurant was our favourite). Good things - great pool, lovely sandy beach, lovely staff (even the pool attendants always had a big smile), some really nice food at the themed restaurants. Bad things - evening entertainment was quite repetitive; the sea was not very good for swimming or snorkelling in due to seaweed and the tide being out; the hotel was located among lots of jungle and villages (which we were told were unsafe to explore). If you use this hotel remember your favourite members of staff and tip them well - they make very little money.

We did accomadation on the cheap. best places by far are:
Diani Beach - Diani Beachlets. s/c
Tiwi Beach - Coral Cove Cottages. s/c
Nairobi - The Iqbal. hostel The accomadation on the coast was amazing. if you want a good night life go to Diani, loads of shops and bars. costs about £3 a night p/p. if you want hazzle free beaches go to Tiwi. really relaxed, £5 pppn. (dont walk from the road to the beach!!)
Iqbal. Really secure place, but in a dodgy part of town, stay in at night, but excellent value at £3.50 pppn.
The silence of Tiwi Beach

After traveling in Kenya it is very nice to relax at the beach of the Indian Ocean. A perfect place to do this is iwi Beach.
Tiwi Beach is the cleanest beach of the east coast of Kenya and not as busy as Diani Beach or Malindi. When I was there, there were hardly any travelers.
Tiwi Beach with its white sand is also a perfect place to go snorkeling or diving. The only disadvantage of this beach can be that the evenings are boring but if you are tired of traveling for a while this won't be a problem.
Besides sunbathing or joining watersports you can also walk a little around in the forest in the neighbourhood of the beach. Interesting is also having a meal in one of the local restaurants. Try the local food (bean-soup and chapati). Very tasty and extremely cheap.
'Africa' rockpool
by smcparland
At the end of Tiwi Beach is a rockpool called Africa rockpool which is supposed to be good for snorkelling. We were told it was unsafe to walk along the beach beyond our hotel due to machete robberies from local villagers, so we were advised to take a beach boy along with us as a 'guide' and pay him £2/ 3. We did not have time to do this trip - so if you go please let me know if it was worth the effort.
