Ewaso Nyiro River by sachara In Samburu National Reserve we camped two times at the northbank of the Ewaso Nyiro River. The first night we stayed at the campsite near Archers Post not far from the entrance of the reserve, so we could enter early in the morning for a first game-drive. The Samburu people of the compound nearby guarded the camp. The second night we stayed at the campsite near Samburu Lodge within the Reserve. Here were a lot of monkeys stealing our bread and also many elephants around. So we hired a guard (500 shilling) to look after our tents and food. The Samburu lodge itself was very expensive ($ 200 a room). We had a (six course) dinner there for $25. After dinner a guard equipped with gun and flashlamp brought us back to the campsite along the narrow bushpaths.
The campsites are very beautifully located with the wildlife all around. The facilities are very basic. There is a water tap. The toilets are just a hole in the ground. time for a sundowner by bijo69 Great safari camp near a watering hole. All tents have their private bathrooms. Delicious food in their restaurant and a well equipped bar. Take a sundowner at the bonfire!
Great views of the animals at the watering hole.

Hotel supplied a 'fire-starter' for our fireplace! by Bwana_Brown, 1 more photos After leaving Lake Naivasha, and stopping at the Nakuru National Park, we continued our drive into the mountains of the Aberdere Range, ending up in the town of Molo (about half-way between Nakuru and the next town of Kisumu). We had booked ourselves into the pretty Highlands Hotel, and quite enjoyed our ground-floor room with access to the outside (see my 'Nightlife' tip for an outside view of the hotel).
At these higher elevations, the room came equipped with both a fireplace and one of the hotel staff who made his rounds getting the various fireplaces lit up for the evenings! A check of our bathroom revealed a mouse-like creature of some sort happily snoring away on one of our towels, a very cozy spot indeed (2nd photo). We just left the animal alone, since it did not seem to be causing any harm! This Kitchen has Seen Better Days! by Bwana_Brown We were a bit surprised by the state of the kitchen in our 'Banda' at Amboseli ! Obviously the living was going to be very 'rustic'. With our box of food supplies picked up in Nairobi, we managed to cook up our meals on the old stove, never mind what it looked like! Hey, the kids look happy don't they? View from our room by Acirfa Our stay here was tremendous. We had our own rondavel which sat right by the riverside. At one point a warden had to come and chase of an elephant that had come to cause havoc outside our room. We slept peacefully amongst the wildlife that called out in the night, just as if we lay side by side in bed with them. This truly is a wonderfully situated lodge! We watched as a cheetah came for his evening meal and enormous storks paraded in the river bed searching for food. We sipped vodka and tonic whilst physically drinking in everything Africa can feed to the soul.
Fantastic wildlife viewing from the rondavels and hotel area. Great Service and good food. Entertainment included tribal dancing and birdwatching. I cannot enthuse about our stay enough.

Kembu Campsite by sachara Not far from Nakuru we stayed at the campsite Kembu, meaning cameleon in Swahili. It's a great campsite in a lovely garden neaar a farmhouse. You can camp at the lawn, but also rent a treehouse, a room in the farmhouse or one of the two bandas! There is an internet connection at the farmhouse, which you can use, though itīs a bit expensive.
The campsite has clean toilets and hot showers. There is a cosy bar, where you can order your meals and bring your laundry. The campsite also arranges gamedrives to the Lake Nakuru National Park. Tree Tops Hotel by Acirfa Tree tops is a place of history even for us Brits as this is where Elizabeth was told her father, King George VI had passed away and thus she became Queen. Apart from this claim we have to it, it is a fantastic lookout for wildlife, I sat up the whole night watching out for elephant, that came to scrape the salt from the earth. There were also antelope, waterbuck and numerous other fascinating species that came to drink from the watering hole and to keep me glued to my spot at the window until daybreak. It is a novelty to stay in this large wooden hotel on stilts overlooking a water hole.
Its in the bush with no frills, however it is comfortable and a perfect hide out to watch nature naturally. Spot lit watering hole and salt lick.

Yare Safaris Lodge by sachara After two nights camping in the bush, we prefered a banda. They were almost not more expensive than camping. The bandas have a private shower & toilet, electricity & running water and a verandah. The bandas are situated in the garden near the bar and terrace.
In the bar you can find a lot of pictures of the annual Camel Derby, starting at the Yale Lodge. We did our own amateur camel race. For pictures and more about it have a look at my sporttips and travelogue.
