Diani Sea resort: A small paradise in Kenya

by Kaarina

We stayed for seven days in summer 2010 in that hotel and enjoyed our stay. The area of that hotel hapend to be beautifull: beautifull palmtrees and sea. Rooms were big and usual, meals very good and if you needed something there were a lot of staff to help you. Entertainments in the evenings were also worth to see (or most of them). Besides pool, we could swim also in the sea.

Serena Beach Hotel: hotel with its own turtle project

by sphynxxs

one of the more upscale hotels of the Kenyan coast, the main building and the rooms influenced by swahili architecture though I would not really support the claim they built a "Swahili village" (but that´s probably because I know too many real African villages). A pleasant place, though I found it amazing for such a posh chain that they have only one pool (and thus no silent area like some other hotels along the coast). Consequently, the pool was more crowded too. Another thing striking me was the considerably lower number of local tourists so it had a bit of a tourist ghetto feeling about it. I really enjoyed sundowners on the roof terrace (this is where the Swahili them hit the right spot for sure!) and the coffee being prepared all day in the main area.

The hotel runs its own turtle conservation project, and if you are lucky, during your stay a nest hatches and you can watch the baby turtles being set free and running for the sea. They also organise lectures on turtles ince a week to raise awareness for conservation

Budget but clean and hospitable: Paris Hotel

by samitbabu

We stayed here for our one night at Nairobi.
Situated at Mfangano street, it is situated at a very noisy and populated area with a very busy sidewalk.

The hotel staff are very cordial, warm and friendly.

Nairobi and Game Parks: Trips to Game Parks

by Suet

You can buy your tickets from the airline's website. We use KLM/AirFrance. To visit the game parks you need to get a tour guide like Bunson Travel (tried and trusted by me) to pick you up from the airport and take you to a hotel, then on to Nakuru/Naivasha/Baringo/Amboseli. Or you can get them to take you to Wilson airport for the flight to the Mara (very quick, it takes a day to drive there) then on to Tsavo.

It's really worth it to get a package. It's safe and you will be well looked after.

However, if you want to go it alone and *wing* it, whatever you do, don't use Wago Wago Budget Car Hire, run by Mr Njorgre. He's a con man and will take your deposit and not give it back in full, even if you return the car clean and full of fuel.

There are smaller camps which are cheaper, of course, they will be tented camps, so make your preference known to your Tour guide. Hell's Gate is one, Kichwa Tembo is another. Make sure all the park fees are included in the price.

Diamond beach village: a gem on one of the best beaches

by sphynxxs

if you need a sparkling night life, this is the wrong place. if you look for a place to hang out, go on beach walks, swim and snorkel without being surrounded by crowds, it is just what you need. diamond beach village is a small place and the owners are very keen on keeping it eco friendly with solar power, rainwater catchment, avoiding plastic bags etc. The "village" is located on Manda island at one of the best beaches Kenya has to offer (no big waves though), overlooking the dunes of Shela on neighboring Lamu island. There are ablout 25 bandas - wooden cottages, not luxurious, but very comfy and charming. Each banda has its private little verandah.

The atmosphere is very relaxed, boat trips to the busier Lamu island can be arranged. Isabelle Adjani and Jacques Chirac have villas at the other end of the bay, but despite celebs and the rich and mighty fancying the Lamu islands, Manda is still a very normal, laid back place. For those who suffered them at other parts of the coast: there are no beach boys! What a bliss for all those who just want to enjoy the beach without being constantly pestered....

Turtle Bay beach club: all inclusive at one of Kenya´s best beaches

by sphynxxs

I stayed at the club for only one night over a weekend, but liked it a lot and wll certainly return. The hotel is all inclusive, but the animation is not too pushy - if you want to be left alone, they´ll just move on. There is also a "mini club" with sports and other offers for kids. The hotel has two pools, one of them in the silent area and for adults only - the kids can splash and scream in the bigger pool. The restaurant food is not spectacular, but okay, and there is a bar overlooking the beach - nice for sundowners. There are three categories of rooms, the seaside rooms have private terraces facing the beach

Watamu is said to be one of the best beaches of Africa - the water is not as shallow as at other parts of the kenyan coast, and the marine park is closeby. If you have been to Kenya before, you know the problems of the beach boys who can be a pest (yes, I know some people like them, but I´m definitely not one of their fans) Turtle Bay lies at a broad stretch of the beach which is partitioned off so you can actually sunbathe under coconut palms on white sandy beach and only have to face the touts when you take a swim - big progress compared to those hotels at narrow beach parts where every sandy bit is in the public area and any walk along the beach means you have to turn down sales offers at every step you take

Wildbeest Camp: In the gardens of Nairobi

by frenkthetank

Nairobis only permanent tented camp with luxury, standard tents or dorms/rooms. Or bring ya own!!! There is also an option to sleep in the house. Good service and facilities. Don't miss the eagle feeding!!!...Perfect, if you want to get away from the Nairobi struggles and hectics...

Situated in a nice garden with flowers and trees and many birds.

Mount Kenya Safari Club: Hollywood glamour in the Highlands

by sphynxxs

The hotel is posh - no doubt about this. The location is magnificent, especially if the peak of mount kenya is not in the clouds - which happens a lot, but usually you get a good view for some minutes in the morning or late afternoon at least, with a garden that is rather a park full of wild birds. The staff is very friendly, food is excellent and the reception area is plastered with autographs and pictures of 1950´s Hollywood stars - the place was once owned by William Holden. There is not really that much to do in the area, other than soaking in the atmosphere, but people can play golf or go for a ride. There is also an animal orphanage. Certainly not the place you´d choose if you just need a base camp before climbing Mt Kenya, but for a romantic weekend, a special anniversary or an occasion to pamper yourself a good adress.

from the (heated) pool you have great mountain views. As an environmentalist the huge tusks at the doors to the bar are not really my thing, but I guess I have to keep in mind that back in the 50´s and 60´s visitors were still heavily into the white big hunter thing, and the stuffed lion heads and the tusks are leftovers from that area. They certainly create a mood of the East Africa experience of that time, the exclusive colonial society.

The Fairview Hotel: A Haven in the Middle of the Bustle

by easterntrekker

This hotel definitely deserves its top online rating. Our airport pickup was waiting as promised and the service at the hotel, once we arrived was unsurpassed. The hotel has a gentle old world charm atmosphere…friendly well trained staff, comfortable bed beautiful crisp white linens, lots of sparkling windows and rich wood. It was easy to imagine the well-heeled travelers from yesteryear who once arrived here. We enjoyed appetizers and drinks the evening we arrived and toasted our 20th Anniversary. The breakfast buffet was wonderful.
Airport Pickup -$20.00
Rate - $165.00
