Forin Guest House: Forin Guest House

by Suet

A BIG VT welcome to Kenya! You will be personally picked up from the airport (Jomo Kenyatta, Nairobi) with a big smile and Karibu Sana! Driven to Mrs Owino's house or Guesthouse and afforded the best service.

I stayed here courtesy of our long time friend Mrs Janepher Owino. This is a guest house business she is running with an incredibly comfortable house, lots of room and attentive staff. It has internet connection, hot water and electricity. The Pics I am posting are of the house we stayed in on our last trip to Kenya in Jan 2011, but, as she is expanding her business, the house you stay in may be different. The quality and standard will remain the same.

The Lady provides more than you can possibly eat at breakfast. Cereals, toast, hot pancakes, sausages, eggs and tomatos, honey, jam, butter, tea in abundance, coffee, waffles and milk. I don't honestly think I stepped away from her table with a hole in my tummy. She also provides packed lunch with bottled water and dinner as extras.

She has a reliable taxi service for Day Trips to Giraffe Centre, Nairobi National Park, Bomas of Kenya, Karen Blixen's House, (you must have read Out Of Africa), Daphne Sheldrick's baby elephant orphanage, Nyumbani AIDS orphan home and many other trips you may want to see are all easily arranged. She has contact with Betty who is an amazingly safe driver with a big vehicle who can take you anywhere.

For shopping, Day Trips to The Village Market and the Masaai Market with a vast array of curios, bags, ornaments, masks, spears and shields. Biashara Street (where you can purchase at cost price all those fabrics like shukas kikoys and lessos). You will have help with regard to fair prices to pay for all you wish to buy.

Mrs Owino has the numbers for takeaways from Anghitis, the very BEST Indian restaurant in Nairobi. It will be delivered (from your restaurant menu) for your evening meal in about 45 mins. They will tell you in advance what the price is, please pay in cash. You can also order takeaway pizza or Italian. Depending on your schedule and stamina, it is sometimes better to eat at home as early starts are the norm before it gets too hot.

You can book with or without breakfast. Rooms are secure with lockable doors and cupboards.

Secure, relaxed. friendly and bountiful breakfast. You can relax in the garden, feed the birds, ask the staff to get you airtime for your phone, fruit or do your laundry.

Gardens are small but full of birdlife.

There are 4 rooms, I Master, en suite with balcony seating and extensive cupboard space
Two people, bed and breakfast $80 per night, single person $55 per night
Twin bed and shared bathroom $70 per night B & B, single person $45

Bed only two people Master ensuite $70, single person $50
Bed only two people Twin beds $65, single person $40

Whole house $250 per night and there are long stay discounts for 4 weeks or more.

If you had 8 people sharing the house with breakfast that would work out at $31.50 per night, which is very good value for Nairobi Area.

Tipping is at your discretion and paid directly to Mrs Owino.

InterContinental: Intecontinental in Nairobi

by Saagar

I stayed here for a conference and it was fine. I prefer smaller and more intimate hotels, and not being easily impressed by grand rooms, halls and sq meters. However, good food helps me overcome such negative thougths!
All you can expect and wish for of a business hotel in East Africa.

Dinner and dessert buffets were great.
Good, central location.
Good pool, terrace bar and a "Safari Bar".

Giraffe Manor: Giraffe Manor is simply the Best!!!

by tc4976

Stop! Don't book your safari or airfare to Kenya or Tanzania until you have reserved rooms at Giraffe Manor for the start or finish of your trip.

Rearrange your schedule to get a night or two in one of the six rooms at Giraffe Manor. There is simply no other place like this. Start saving now because Giraffe Manor is expensive, but know you will find your stay worth every penny.

Your arrival will be greeted with a welcome drink and a friendly staff to show you to your room in this 1930's Manor house. You would want to come just for the ambience of the manor.

If you arrive in the morning or after five the feature that will most catch your eye are the 16 foot tall Rothschild Giraffes on the from lawn.

In the afternoon high tea will be served on the front lawn. When the adjacent Giraffe Center closes the giraffes will wander to the front lawn. When we were there we saw a 3 week old foal jumpimng and bouncing to try out her wobbly legs. Be mindful since a warthog may decide to join you.

There is a social hour before dinner in the living room. You will have an extensive selection of wine and liquor. I stuck with a very excellent traditional gin & tonic.

Dinner is a formal affair in the main dining room. You will have a four course gourmet meal with dessert and a superb selection of wine. After dinner coffee or tea or a nightcap may be taken in the lounge.

Breakfast is informal. Start with the cereal and yogurt. Add in some giraffe chow for Arlene or Lynne as they join you through the steel casement sunroom windows. Order your pancakes eggs toast and sausage or bacon from the staff. You will be completely taken as you dine with the giraffes.

680 Hotel, Sentrim Hotels: 680 Hotel

by Kars

10th floor, city center, easy to access many shopping locations, parks, KICC Conference center, City Council, The Judiciary etc... by the way ; hotel includes a casino for the players...

If matter is restless fun , then its ok, you will find all around. Hotel's bar and their singers, band etc will help you to be satisfied with late night attractions...
But, if you look for a palce calm, noiseless etc, better you choose another Sentrim Hotel lodges in Hotel Boulevard...

The Simmers, just opposite to the hotel, will feed you starting from afternoon till late night around 04-05 am, with live noisily music, and you may eat, drink dance and even participate in some quarrels and fights... :)... yes !!! its happening when the alcohol limits overloaded...

Kenya Comfort Hotel: Kenya Comfort Hotel

by georeiser

Kenya Comfort Hotel is an old and famous budget hotel. It's right in the middle of downtown, and close to the restaurant, bars and nightlife.

My room had a small doublebed with mosquito net. The mosquito net was dirty and had some holes, and the bathroom was water damaged. I could feel mould smell in the floor. But the rest of the hotel room was clean and OK.

The cafe in the second floor is great and is open in the night. It's quite cheap to eat and drink there. I really recommend this cafe. It is also possible to crawl out of the big window and sit on the balcony. The staff will serve you trough the window.

About USD50 if you are alone for a double room. And USD65 for the same room for two persons. 80 USD for a tripple room.

Norfolk Hotel: British Colonial Style

by kucha

I've stayed at the Norfolk on several trips to Nairobi and have never been disappointed. After a hot and dusty day, it's a pleasure to unwind in the state-of-the-art health and fitness center, which features a sauna, steam room, workout equipment, and massage therapy. There is also a heated swimming pool, and nearby courses and courts for tennis, squash and golf.

The Norfolk Hotel is older than London's celebrated Ritz, having opened on Christmas Day in 1904. Its English Tudor facade evokes this East African nation's British colonial past with style and charm. Set amid tranquil gardens just a short distance from the city center, the hotel features a quiet country setting that has welcomed a myriad of notable guests, from Karen Blixen to Theodore Roosevelt.

Tip Photo
Oakwood Hotel: Oakwood Hotel is overrated

by Osmun79

I stayed here as a cheap place to spend a night because my flight got in late and my driver couldn't take me to the place where I was at night (too much crime). I paid $80 US and in return got a room over a busy casino, loud noise, no air-conditioning, and a slightly dirty room. I am suprised I got ANY sleep. The only real good part was the gourmet breakfast of fruits and eggs and meats in the morning.

I would not reccomend this if you can stay at the Hornbill or the Stanley for just a little bit more.

Well, the breakfast in the morning was WONDERFUL.. it kind of made up for my crummy sleep.
