Luxury while on a Mission Trip

It was a very strange experience to be visiting slums everyday, talking to women and children with HIV, and spending time in a foreign country on a mission trip, all the while staying in beautiful accommodations, but indeed that was the case. We were a group of 24 people traveling together and the organization planning the trip wanted to ensure safety and comfort during our stay. Our days were packed with activities, so I didn't get to enjoy all the luxuries of the property. There were numerous restaurants, one which had a themed dinner show that seemed popular, very nice pools, although it didn't seem warm enough to warrant a bathing suit and the upstairs bar was a great diversion, with an open air patio and serene calm feel.

Nice but don't expect TOO much

Nice grounds and African-colonial style buildings. Couple of nice bars. Basic business centre. Friendly staff. Not real cozy and when it's cloudy even a bit gloomy.

Unique Quality: Somehwat basic conference facilities. Also question arises why one would stay there: if it's about Nairobi a more centrally located hotel would be more convenient, whereas if it's about the 'safari' feeling there are more charming places further afield in Kenya.

Kenya's most Cosmopolitan and finest hotel

While interviewing places for our clients, we were invited by the management to tour the Safari Park Hotel.
We were quickly impressed by it's sheer size, spacious gardens and quality servie, even as guests.

Unique Quality: The grounds are amazing - front and back.
Safari Park Hotel even has it's own private beach built in within the compound - and compound is the only way to describe the 60+ acres of private gardens and bungalows that this hotel has.

The swimming pool (s) - plural - form a lagoon, complete with waterfall, easily enjoyed from the bar/terrace area where you may also have breakfast or lunch.

Rooms are amngst the nicest I've seen in any hotel. Huge, spacious with comfortable beds and beautiful decor.
If we could afford it (expensive by Kenya standards), we would gladly stay here.

They boast being self contained which means once there, there is no need to search for anything outside the hotel. They seem to have it all, including various restaurants which give you a wide choice of international food/cuisine.

feel the jungle in the city

A beautiful resort hotel in the heart of the city. Not a regular hotel but gives you feel of a jungle lodge in the middle of the city. Four poster bed in the bedroom, spacious bathrooms and a lovely balcony opening into the lawn. beautifully landscaped hotel. would highly recomend

Unique Quality: Beautiful pool setup like a lagoon in a jungle, inhouse casino , huge property , lush green .

A great place to stay while in Nairobi

The services, facilities, amd amenities at the Safari Park Hotel are so wonderful. They are constantly upgrading things, with people running around, working on construction, cleaning, and helping guests constantly. When you come in, they offer you warm towels and juice right away. They have all the spa services plus nice restaurants, pools, a gym, and they had a great dance show our first night there. They serves a lot of local meats like camel, croc, and goat, all served what I call "Brazilian Style', where they come with it on a large skewer and cut a chunk off for you.

Unique Quality: Every room was equiped with a mini fridge, TV , phone, a beautiful veranda, nice bathroom, laundry services, a blow dryer...just about everything you could want!

Cafe Kigwa

This was one of the restaurants within the hotel, quaintly called the 'Cafe' Kigwa. It was open 24 hours. We had amazing lunches there washed down with the local beer.Incredible selections of buffet food were freshly put out throughout the day and night., as well as a la carte menu, always available.

Beautifully located, in rural surroundings.

The service was excellent, provided by polite, friendly staff. We remained in touch with Johnston, the doorman, exchanging photos of our home town.He helped organise trips and transport for us, as did the other staff also.
I'd never experienced a 5* hotel before, so it was all a delight for me.

Unique Quality: The hotel pools were beautiful and well-lloked after.Restaurants within the hotel were excellent. The show put on at the biggest of the restaurants was amazing, incredible dancing, music (traditional & modern). The menu provided us with ostrich,wildebeest,zebra,chicken,lamb,etc.,etc.all cooked on a barbecue in front of us, and carved from huge spikes at the table!
We also sampled the excellent Japanese restaurant, although we over-estimated our requirements. It was all so delicious we couldn't leave it and we were provided with a 'doggy-bag'.It was individually cooked for each group of customers at their table.

Quiet rooms in low buildings, surrounded by lush green and colorful blooms. The swimming pool is an experience in itsel. It resembles a river crisscrossing a jungle and even offers a waterfall slide that's neatly worked into the surroundings.

The Safari Park Hotel in...

The Safari Park Hotel in Nairobi has magnificent grounds. The rooms are very good, especially for Africa. But the grounds are spectacular. After the chaos of Nairobi traffic it can be very calming to retreat to the grounds of the Safari Park.
I don't know the price. It was included in our package. The hotel has everything--great grounds, good rooms, peacocks strutting around, pools, streams, workout facilities, and so on.

We have a full day and one night's layover in Nairobi before we head out for our safari on the 28th of Dec.
What are good hotels to stay at in the 60-110 US$ range? The Oakwood looks really run down from the outside...how is it on the inside?
We are seriously considering the Safari Park Hotel, because that theme seems appealing to us from all the pics on the net, but we are still open if prices are better. The Hilton and The Stanley are also offering some good deals at the moment....
Which one would you choose? And what is the proximity of these hotels to the Maasai Market and Carnivore? Those are my two MUST-DOs for a day well-spent in Nairobi from all I have read about them :-). Anything else that might take one's fancy?

Thanks,
keya
