Tsavo East, lodge with a view
by sachara about Voi Safari Lodge
The Voi Safari Lodge is 5KM inside the park from the Voi Gate.
The lodge is at a rocky hill and has a nice view at a pool and an endless plain.
Be carefull, during the breakfast are toast- stealing baboons around. During the night we didn't close the curtains because we could see the floodlighted pool from our bed. It's a pity we didn't see any animal. The only thing we heard were a lot of frogs.
Safari

As I've said in previous sections my main concern in Kenya is with the people. In fact in several visits to the country we've only done one safari!. It was a one-day affair and we travelled through Tsavo East Park to Voi Lodge. We were so impressed that in 2003 we intend to do at least a night at the place. The picture below is from the special hide that you access via a steep flight of stone steps and an underground tunnel. Right in front is a waterhole at which all sorts of animals drink. Having made our way back up from this particular shot a whole herd of elephants arrived, but I was too tired to trek back down (wasn't so well into VT then!). You also have a superb panoramic view of the park from the lodge itself.
KENYA

Kenya is one of the major loves of my life. Having vowed for years never to holiday in Africa believing that it had nothing to interest me, I have now been four times in five years. Each visit is designed essentially to meet Ouma, a child that we sponsor, who lives in Nyanza District west of Kisumu. We have made many friends there and stay at the very African "Sunset Hotel", overlooking Lake Victoria (the views alone are worth a visit).
Each holiday has incorporated a visit and usually a party at Ouma's village, and a beach stay at a better hotel. The above photograph is of the Indian Ocean from The Bamburi Beach Hotel north of Mombassa.
We have now indulged in two safaris and they were superb! Both were spent at Voi Lodge in Tsavo National Park.
We have never had any problems from locals who, to a westerner, may seem initially intimidating. They stare only because they are curious, once the ice is broken you'll usually find a friend for life!

Have you just come back from Kenya?
by priti
Hi
I'm off to Flamingo Beach, Shanzu (20km North of Mombasa)in Kenya on Saturday. Has anyone comeback from there who can tell me what the weather is like at the moment. Feeling a bit apprehensive. Will be going to See Mombasa and also be going on Safari probably to Masai Mara or Tsavo and Shimba Hills has been highly recommended also.
Appreciate any replies.
