Kibo Lodge: Perfectly good but not very special

We had two tents which were perfectly well equipped - concrete floors, electric light, flushing toilet, and running hot water for the shower. Beds were fine with mosquito nets provided. So all in all everything we needed was provided.

The dining area was very busy though and we queued for the buffet supper which I don't remember being anything particularly special. The waitress who served us drinks and removed our plates was perfectly efficient and pleasant.

There was quite a nice bar area with plenty of shade so we could relax whilst waiting for our afternoon game drive.

We didn't try out the swimming pool.

I think the biggest drawback with Kibo Safari camp is that it is located outside the national park ( probably making it cheaper for the visitor) and as a consequence there is a short drive to reach the entrance gates as they open up in the morning and a mad dash to reach them before they close at night. Apparently there are penalties for drivers who do not make it in time. As a consequence we felt rushed and a wee bit nervous given the high speed that our driver was using to get to the park gates. Had we been staying in a lodge within the park we would not have felt so rushed. In Tsavo our evening game drives were more relaxed because we were staying in the camps within the park boundary. Bear this in mind when making your booking.

Sentrim, Amboseli N.R.: Views are better than the food.

Quite enjoyed a one night stay here on the edge of Amboseli, room was very clean, a large tent with corrugated iron sheets over the top to presumably keep the large Maribou storksM off. All members of staff were very pleasant and welcoming, only problem was the food!! Exactly the same choices for dinner as at lunch and no more cooked!! Very disappointed. Further on we stayed at the Sentrim in Maasai Mara and the food was the same, even the same choices......

Of course the redeeming feature is the beautiful view of Mt. Kilimandjaro. You have to see it before 11 am though or it disappears into the clouds.

Kibo Safari Camp: Amboseli's best Camp.

The tented camp is just a short distance from Kimana Gate. The tented camp is very nice and it is fenced, it has a swimming pool and has the amazing view of Mt. Kilimanjaro if it's not cloudy{in the evening and early in the morning}.
The staff are very helpful and the food is good and they were very helpful even in preparing my baby gal who was 11/2 yrs then her food . The beds are comfortable and there is flushable toilet and hot showers. They turn off the electricity in the afternoon and during nightime until 5 in the morning but provide a torch .
After dinner there is a maasai dance at night around the camp fire. The atmosphere is very relaxing.

Amboseli Lodge: Stay somewhere else if you can!

We stayed here for one evening as part of a safari. There were lots of little points that made our stay memorable for the wrong reason! They may sound trivial, but put them all together and we decided to tell the managment that it wasn't a very nice place to stay! If you can stay somewhere else, I would. If you stay here expect the following....
--Don't lean on the railings over the fish pond, they aren't safe.
--The pool table, had a ball missing, the white looked like emmental cheese, there was no tips on the cues, it was also on a slope. (Very frustrating for someone who knows how to play, great fun for me especially after a few Tuskers!)
--The food was ok, but the same, very bland.
--They didn't put the mosquito net down, or spray the room. (Every other place we stayed did).
--We had no hot water for a shower in the morning.
-- The electricity went off at 7am, there is no warning about it like the other lodges.
--The receptionist was rude, we checked out and she found it such a hassle to collect our bar bill!

The pool looked very nice, and on a nice day, I believe you can see Kilimanjaro from here.....

Amboseli serena lodge: A very good safari lodge

In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, beside a copse of giant Acacia trees and a gently flowing natural spring, stands Amboseli Serena - one of Africa's finest safari lodges. All around the lodge roams the big game that have made East Africa legendary - lion, buffalo, giraffe, baboon, gazelle, wildebeest and fair sized herds of wild elephant.

Exellent food.

Amboseli lodge: Be sure you have coins.........

We stayed in the Amboseli lodge for two nights. It was our first stop in Kenya after being a week in Tanzania, so we had no oppertunity to change our money into Kenyan Shilling. First night when we payed for our drinks with US$ we felt a bit overcharged (15$ for 4 beers), the next morning we changed some Euro into Shilling at the reception and as it turned out later got a very poor rate. Then we had to pay for two soda drinks, which is 160 Shilling, the bartender had no coins, so we were charged 200 Shilling. No problem once, but it happened every time we had to pay, and with every one in the group. That means they took a tip of 25%, without us ever getting a free drink or paying just 150 instead of the 160. So if you visit be sure you have some coins and can pay the exact amount !!
The second night there was a party with very loud music in the lodge next door. This took away the magic of sleeping in the middle of a gamepark.

The lodge has nice appartments though, they are a bit old and the flowers in our room were defenitely not from this week, but it was alright.
The grounds were not completely fenced (the fence was broken) and the animals like zebra and baboons were walking in front of our cabin.
The swimming pool had a problem with the pump and the water was looking very green, so we did not use that.
On the upside: we did have a great of view of the Kilimanjaro from our cabin.

Amboseli Lodge: Amboseli Lodge

May be able to see zebras and elephants on the grass outside the restaurant.
Baboons were making noise at night. The nosie was quite disturbing. Must lock doors and windows at before sleep.
Food served during lunch and dinner are basically the same. Pork were rough. But breakfast was acceptable with selections of juices and make-to-cook omlet.
Lack of steady hot water supply. Avoid bathing with too many people at the same time. The best bathing time may be early in the morning.

Able to see Mt. Kilimanjaro. The best time to take photos may be early in the morning where fogs go off.
Swimming pool water was not clean.

Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge: Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge

In the shadow of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa's highest mountain, beside a copse of giant Acacia trees and a gently flowing natural spring, stands Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge.
With a spectacular view on the 6000 m high snow-capped peaks of Mount Kilimanjaro, the setting of Amboseli Serena Safari Lodge is unrivalled. Influenced by native Masai architecture, the lodge is in perfect harmony with its environment. Beautifully landscaped gardens with lots of flowers, a nice swimming pool, guest rooms in the shape of a Masai menyatta, decorated in authentic African style. All with private facilities.

Guestrooms have either a view on the expansive Amboseli plains or on Mount Kilimanjaro.
