Whistling Thorns: Great place to stay in the Maasai land foothills

Whistling Thorns was a very pleasant place to stay. It IS a little far out from Nairobi and the taxi company we used from the airport didn't know where it was, but it is worth searching out. Whistling Thorns is a working farm with some bungalows, a camping area, a swimming pool, and a restaurant. The owners are very gregarious and love to talk about their adopted country. Camping was about Ksh250, the bungalows had a two-tiered pricing system; one price for Kenyans/residents and another for tourists. The Kenyan price was a good deal, the tourist price, at about US$80 was not. We arranged for a day trip to Nairobi National Park through them also, a few nicely done trip.

Nice pool, walking trails where you can see zebras and giraffes, a good restaurant where you can try zebra or impala, among other things.
The name "Whistling Thorns" comes from the local acacia trees which actually whistle!
