Sirikwa Safaris: A marvellous place for catlovers
At the Sirikwa were a lot of cats around. Early in the morning, when it was still cold, many of them gathered on top of the outdoor ofen of the farm. Here they also got their food.
We liked these cats a lot. Julia told us about the cats, they were all burmese. She showed us a cute one, which often was lying in a barn near the rabbits.
If you don't like cats, don't worry, because, if you don't want them, they don't visit your room or tent. And don't be frightened, if you see a shade of a cat through the little window of the toilet at night, because it is just beside the outdoor ofen.

Sirikwa Safairs: Room with a view at the lovely garden
Because of the heavy rains we decided to hire a room in the farmhouse instead of camping. It was a lovely furnished room at the backside of the farmhouse with a nice view at the lovely garden.
Our room had its entrance at a porch with some chairs. It was a lovely place to read a book or drink tea, offered by our host Julia. From the porch we could also reach the toilet and shower.
Unique Quality: Sirikwa Safaris can arrange many excursions like trips to the Saiwa Swamp National Park\ (park fee 15 $), Tantar Falls, a Pokot village or even further to Mount Elgon National Park or the Cherangani Hills

Mount Elgon, campground: Mount Elgon, selfsupporting camp
There are twocampgrounds in Mount Elgon National Park. At our campsite were no cooking facilities. We brought our own campkitchen and bought our food in Kitale.
The camp was provided with a big hole for garbage. During the night some servals visit this place. We saw their shining eyes in the flashlight, just beside our tent.

Mount Elgon National Park, campground: Mount Elgon, camp with a beautifull view
In 1994 we visited the Mount Elgon National Park. In the park itself are no lodges. There is only a campground with a breathtaking view at the mount Elgon.
The camp is not far from the Chorlim gate. It has only some basic sanitary facilities and you have to bring you own food and drinks.
Unique Quality: Great natural scenery. We were the only visitors.

Sirikwa Safaris: Stay at a farmhouse
North of Kitale you can camp in the lovely garden a former farmhouse Barnley family. You can camp, but also rent a permanent furnished tent or a room in the house. Since 1978 the place is run by Jane and Julia Barnley as a lodge and and campsite.
We arrived in the dark, while it was raining heavily. The furnished tents were all booked ( 750 sh a bed), so we decided to take a comfortable room (3500 sh) in the house instead of using our own tent.
Sirikwa Safaris also offers an all weather banda, kitchen facilities, hot showers, fire wood, electricity and barbeques
Unique Quality: Sirikwa is situated in a lovely area with apparent '' Sirikwa Holes''. The area is full of these depressions which, excavated by purpose or chance, produced ancient tools and smelted rock, both relics of former mines.
