Merica Hotel: Oasis in the City

After nearly 2 months of bucket baths and by the kindness of a relative of the other volunteer, we received a free night at the Merica Hotel. The rooms are extremely old, musty due to lack of AC, but do have a nice shower and mosquito nets. The selling point of the hotel is its bar and pool areas. It has an above average buffet spread daily, and a wonderfully inviting pool. The entrance is a 10 story atrium and in the back there is a full-on gym, though you normally have to pay per visit, as they claim to be a separate entity from the hotel.
