Ziwani is A Hidden Gem!

Rooms: 10 King Size and 15 twin. All rooms are tents which stand on concrete plinths. Every tent has en-suite facilities with hot shower, wash basin and flushing toilet. Besides the beds, each tent has dressing table and wardrobes. The power is via generator and comes on at 6pm – 11pm and 6 am – 8am. Torches and candles are supplied and guests will always be escorted to and from tents during dark hours. For charging of equipment, this can be done at reception quite safely.

Facilities & Excursions: The camp offers a number of very good excursions and activities including: Trips to Lakes Chala and Jipe, trips to Grogan’s Castle and Slaughter Hill. Nature walks, bush breakfasts, game drives (if not in own vehicle, camp needs prior notice to arrange a suitable vehicle), night game drives, bush dinners, long distance game drives, fishing and horse riding. There is also an Adventurers club for younger guests (the camp have no age restrictions) and there is also a very good information centre with a huge amount of information. A small shop sells the usual souvenirs.

With prior notice, the camp can accommodate small weddings and, if the whole camp is hired, they can host seminars. There is laundry and room service available on request. Internet access is only available in the reception and offices. For medical aid, the camp has a nurse on site and for emergencies the camp has a landing strip.
The camp has six security guards who patrol 24 hours a day – the camp is not fenced and visitors are usually in the shape of hippo and antelope!
Usual payment methods are accepted including credit cards, euro’s, GBP, US Dollars and Canadian Dollars.

Dining: An open-sided restaurant seating up to 60 people serves a la carte fine dining. Food here is exceptional with lots of choice. Evening dinner is enjoyed on the lawn, lakeside (weather permitting) then guests are asked to take a seat and relax by the camp to enjoy the entertainment by the Massai Warriors. Whatever time of day you eat, the food will be excellent and freshly prepared. The views are breathtaking as the backdrop is Kilimanjaro.

Staff: The staff here must be mentioned for their enthusiasm and love of nature and Ziwani. The camp has naturalists who take guests on a very informative and entertaining nature walk around the camp which allows quite unique access to crocs, birds and hippo. The same staff will also escort you on a night game drive armed with a huge light they can spot even the most elusive of animals not normally spotted during a day game drive. The staff are always obliging and very friendly.

In conclusion: the unique selling point of Ziwani is the beauty of its surroundings and the abundance of nature and wildlife. It’s a nature lovers paradise and two nights or more are definitely recommended.

In my opinion, this lodge is certainly not promoted enough by Heritage Hotels, it is indeed a hidden gem and it's a shame that more people haven't had the pleasure of staying here!!
