Old hotel..
by hugo501 about Lesotho Sun
This hotel needs a facelift.. It is very old.. Everthing about it is old.. The rooms are decent size and the bathroom is ok.. The service is nothing to shout about.. I would rate this as a just about a 3 star.. From what I understand there isnt much else choice for decent hotels in Maseru so that is probably why it is so expensive for such an average hotel.. The rooms are clean and the beds comfy.. Its not the greatest hotel but you could do a lot worse.. The pool looks very nice and is quite big but was kind dirty.. The hotel also has a casino and gym (again equipment is very old)..
Apparently a last resort...

I stayed at the Victoria Hotel for two nights while in Maseru, since I could not find accommodation prior to arrival and it was where the shuttle bus driver at the airport was able to sort me out with a room at. In hindsight I have discovered that it is listed as a last resort for the event that the Lancer's, Maseru Sun and Lesotho Sun are full. The facilities were best described as adequate but basic - the fittings were quite worn and the bathroom certainly nothing to right home about - e.g. cigarette burns on the duvet covers, tired wooden furniture. There were also no safe facilities in the room - a lockable cupboard was in the room, but I would not have wanted to trust my valuables to it.
The food was passable, although the restaurant, despite being empty still had appallingly slow service, with many of the items on the menu not being available (a basic dinner cost about M 80 / ZAR 80). Breakfast was better than dinner, but still nothing to write home about. For a business hotel it had very little by way of business travellers facilities - no available internet connection (although there were some nearby internet cafes that were relatively fast).
I paid M 600 a night - which is cheaper than the Lancer's and the Sun, but for substantially less I could have possibly got a good B&B. Proximity to tourist information.

To be on the cheap site, eat at the food stalls or small restaurants which you find all over Lesotho.
To spoil yourself for just Rand 65, go to Maseru Sun Hotel and enjoy the buffet from 7 to 10 am. Eat as much as you can from salads to stir fry to what you like, and its good food!
Buffet Rand 65, wine from Rand 45 / bottle
nice and relaxed atmosphere, casual outfit. BUFFE

Dear Mike,
many thanks for your reply. The two Hotels Maseru Sun and Lesotho Sun are a little bit above my budget. Are their any middle class accomodations in Maseru ?
( I hope that there a NO alternatives...then I could convince my boss :-)) )
Best regards from Germany
Dirk

Dear Mike,
no problem. Finally I was at the Lancers Inn, which was ok. For approx. 50 US
I got a whole house for myself with colour TV, living , kitchen, and two bedrooms.
The best is the restaurant beside the Lancers Inn : The Rendevous. Excellent food, for reasonable prices.
All the best to you
Dirk
