“blantyre 2012”

Merci Biou&Michel

The Crazy French Guy

I never stayed here, but did have dinner a few times, and WOW the French cuisine was top class! Jean Michelle is the crazy french guy that runs this establishment and it's definitely worth a visit, either for the accommodation or the food. Jean Michelle used to run a hotel in Sierra Leone before moving to the safer environs of Blantyre Malawi.

Escargot in the shell, coq au vin, chateau briand, the soups, the salads, the breads, all just too perfect. He even organised Steak Tartar for us (and nobody was sick afterwards)

Room rates from US$48 to US$78

Jean Michelle speaks some English, but his Italian partner is better, so you have 3 methods of communication, French, Italian or English. Or a little of all three. He's flambouyant, loud, obnoxious and straightforward all at the same time, but he seems to have a good heart, if you're shy and reserved you may not like him, if you're outspoken and obnoxious you may not like him either, but if you just laugh along and throw in a few obnoxious quips yourself you'll get along with him quite nicely.

Expect him to take and email loads of pix of your group while eating, and don't leave without giving him a business card. He prepares picnic lunches and also hires out cars for US$50 per day (without driver) and only to guests at the hotel.

There's an internet facility (which is up and down and sometime's not at all) and no cable TV.

Used by many Journs's, UN staff and NGO's

Unique Quality: Jean Michelle - Very unique - look out for the Salvador Dali Moustache
