Kaya Mawa: Most expensive place

Kaya Mawa (maybe tomorrow) is an extraordinary place. They even have a small island with one chalet called Honeymoon Island. So, I you want an island for yourself ? Service has to be ordered by a hand-held radio!

Unique Quality: Accommodation is in stone chalets and none of them is like the other. But it has its price: Rooms are about 150 $.
The restaurant serves probably the best meals on the island. Four course candle light dinners
are about 15 $ (book in advance).

A laser sailing boat can be hired for 10 $ / hour or an inflating canoe for 2 $ / hour.

Even if you can?t afford to stay there for a night, visit Kaya Mawa and have a drink at the bar to see what the place is like.

"Mango Drift": Lovely Place

"Mungo Drift is a lovely place to stay. Its the only cheap place to stay on the Island that is located near the lake. Its got it´s own beach.

Unique Quality: "Mungo Drift" offers accommodation in chalets for 4 $ per person, a bed in a dorm or camping is 2 $.
There is a bar with cold drinks and a small collection of CDs. Mails are available. Vegitarian dishes are about 3 $ meat ones about 4$.

Masks and fins are available for the guests and for free. The management is very friendly and helpful. The “Two Island Diver” diving school is offering the cheapest diving courses in Malawi.

There is a free pick up service from the Ilala to “Mungo Drift”. Watch out for the “Rasta boat”.

To get there either take the pick up boat or turn left when you leave the jetty towards the air strip. Take the first road to the right and follow it for about 1,5 km. When you see the poles of a eletric powerline near the road, turn right on the small path. Cross the hill and walk down to the small bay. Its a 45 min walk.

Kubira Lodge: Chizumulu - best accomodation!

Unique Quality: The rooms are basic: a mattress on the ground and a mosquito net, thats it. If you have a tent you it is possible find a place where you can pitch it up.
There are only pit latrines.

The bar was build into a hollow baobab tree. The drinks will be as warm as on Likoma because there is no fridge on the Island. The food is unbelievable good and makes the place special!
Guests can chose from a good variety of music tapes.

If there is enough money in his box the manger may change foreign money.
A boat for diving excursions can be hired (if the engine is working). Snorkel equipment is also available.

Akuzike Super Rest House: Friendly place

The Rest House is simple but clean with a friendly management. All the rooms can be locked and are equipped with mosquito nets. There is some (5 minutes boiled) drinking water for the guests. (Don’t forget 5 minutes is not enough!) Here are maps of the island available.

Next door is the "Akuzike Beer Garden"
