Njaya Lodge: Paradise
Heaven on Earth, has chalets and camping spaces for the more hardcore travellers. Coldish but very refreshing showers, lovely food and the most amazing veiw of sunrise over Lake Malawi, if you can wake yourself up in time. I'm going to live there one day!
Unique Quality: Had friends staying in Mayoka Village and my friend and I (both females) were escorted too and from there during the night for safety reasons by groundsmen from the Lodge - they didn't have to do it but offered which was a really nice touch to a very enjoyable week. Fantastic service, fab barman - Gilbert and the cutest waiter - Simon.
Disn't need a pool because Lake Malwai is on your doorstep.

"Big Blue": Nice place - located at the lake
Unique Quality: "Big Blue" is a nice place to stay with a friendly English management (Steve & Sarah).
There have chalets; some are right near the water, which go for singles: 500 Mkw
doubles: 800 Mkw
dorm beds: 300 Mkw
camping: 250 Mkw
A hot shower and purified water is available, the toilets are spotless. Somebody will pick you up at the Ilala and escort you.
They serve some meals for about 200 Mkw – 450 Mkw.
Snorkelling equipment, canoes and dug outs are for free use for their guests. Same like the video nights.
A cooperation with a professional Malawian tour guide is arranged so that you can do different trips on the water, hikes in the surrounding hill or visit a local brewery and a witchdoctor.
If you arrive in the very early morning with the Ilala and you book in, they will charge you an extra night! Make clear about how many nights you will stay and what you have to pay!

Mayoka Village: Nkhata Bay Backpacker
It's a nice and clean place with beatiful small huts with a view over Lake Malawi. The food is very good and it's a great place to meet other backpackers. The owners of the place also arrange boat trips very cheap every now and then. Then you stay out for a day snorkeling, cliffjumping (15m) and just enjoying a beer or a soda in the sun.
Costed abut 5U$ for a room
Unique Quality: The view is fantastic and the food is great. There is no pool but a great bar with occasional live bands. Mostly the bar is quite lively so if you want some party it's a good place.
