Hotel La Esplanaude: On the River

I spent my first night in Mali here. THis place is right on the river ( sorry only 1 or 2 rooms face it). It is a nice clean place with probably the best shower I had in Mali due to the strong water pressure. There were no mosquito nets in the room but the room was well sealed due to the a/c and I did not get any bites

Right on the river so if you wake up early you can get some great river front shots

Hotel Djoliba: Cheap, clean and friendly

The staff at the Hotel Djoliba were among the most friendly I have met. Everything seems clean and well kept. Definitely somewhere to stay the night when in Segou.

The hotel consists of a number of rooms on two floors around a central courtyard. There is a restaurant facing the street where you can get the plat de jour for 3,000cfa (two courses). There are several levels of accommodation to choose from. The cheapest is a shared dormitory, or the roof terrace. However, a good option is a shared room (3 bed) with WC and shower near by. This is only 5,000 per person per night.

Hotel Delta: Best option in Segou

Still called Centre D' Accueil in the Lonely Planet.
Very nice domain with a building for the reception, buildings with rooms and a separate building for bar en restaurant. Nice, spacious rooms with fan and mosquitonet
Price: 7500 CFA with shower. 1000 less for shared shower and toilet.
Toilets are clean - breakfast included
Strange phenomenon: only 1 breakfast per room is included, the second sleeper has to pay (750 CFA).
Big Castel Beer for only 700 CFA
Higly recommended

Motel Savane: Motel

You have two possibilities to stay there:
Having double rooms (that are called like Malian cities) or sleeping at one big communal room (what is cheaper).

It's not very clean, but it's not so bad

l'Auberge, Segou: l'Auberge, Segou

Double room £27 per night

A hotel frequented by aid workers and expatriates in Segou. It has a swimming pool and is generally very comfortable.

Motel Mivera, Segou: Motel Mivera, Segou

double room with fan £14 per night

Segou
We stayed several times at the Motel Mivera in Segou. This is a no frills hotel so dont expect too much. But, it is cheap and clean. A double room cost us £14 a night last year (2001), food is extra. Be warned there are no mosquito nets in rooms and nowhere to hang one. The staff will spray your room for you on request, but we had problems with mosquitoes even in the dry season. All bedrooms have a bathroom ensuite, and have fans. The price almost doubles if you have air conditioning (in the same room).

Don't eat in the hotel restaurant for breakfast .. its expensive and lousy. Try one of the roadside breakfast vendors instead. Freshly made coffee/hot chocolate, and fresh bread for 50p ..can't be beaten.
