Merville Beach Hotel: Family hotel

We stayed at the Merville for 4 nights in April. The hotel is located in Grand Baie which is a good area to be in if you would like to be within walking distance to a town. We traveled with our 7 year old and chose not be too isolated. It is a beach property although the beach is not very impressive.Service levels where at usual levels expected from a 3 star property. Nothing to complain about and nothing to rave about either.

Cleanliness was important to us and we were impressed. Our towels were changed everyday and the room and wash were spotless when we would return to the hotel. The rates for wi-fi for your entire stay is also very good value for money.

The choice of food was disappointing. I was expecting to taste something exotic and their weekly activities suggest a themed dinner every night but was it was a let down. The breakfasts are repetitive and I wondered by the 3rd morning if they were serving leftovers from the day before!! We were on a half board package which is a good option as food is expensive in Mauritius.

The hotel offers free water activities which was good value for money. Kayaking, glass bottom boat ride, peal boat, wind surfing, water skiing all are on the house and and unlimited.

We had a late flight back home and they accommodated us with a late check out which was so kind of them

Unique Quality: The hotel offers a 5 minute free call to anywhere in the world everyday. It's great when to want to say a quick hello to family back home

Best Hotel, Best Staff: The Grand Mauritian

The Grand Mauritian is stunning in very aspect. On the protected side of the island, it is sheltered from the wind and so always feels beautifully calm. I have stayed there twice and each time in rooms that are huge with large balconies or patios facing the sea, DVD, Pod docking station, large well ventilated bathrooms - 5 star luxury all the way. But its the staff that turn this amazing hotel into a home. Courteous, friendly and always there in an unobtrusive fashion, they elevate this holiday expereince into something really special.

Unique Quality: There are two huge pools serviced by two restaurants - maginificently lit at night. The hotel itself is surrounded and built between large Koi ponds.

Gold Crest: Do not stay here

Got to be one of the worst hotels in Mauritius. I learnt the hard way so I thought I should share this information. Understandably its difficult to find a $100 hotel in Mauritius but this hotel at $100 for a supposedly superior room was lousy. The hotel phone did not work for all three days, even after I told the reception about it. I could not find the TV remote and no one came to assist me after going down to the reception 4 times. The toilet was dirty with yellow water stains. The shower head would not adjust to direct water onto the body but was set to throw water into one end of the tub. The food - well I ordered dinner and they made a hash of it. The chef came out and apologized later. The bar sucks and the service is poor. Breakfast in the morning has very limited choice - may appeal to locals but does not meet the needs of international business travelers. The staff is usually very sleepy in the mornings during breakfast and you catch several stifling yawns while pouring coffee or standing behind pillars in the restaurant.

Sugar Beach Resort & Spa: Sugar Beach

We had a great experience at the Sugar Beach Resort.
The accomodation is very comfortable. Air Conditioned room (you need it), en-suite bathroom and a patio to watch the ocean from.
I highly recommend the Sugar Beach.
The supurb breakfasts are included in your daily rate.

Unique Quality: Every night you have a live band and dancing on the "island" in the pool.
A very popular night for guest whilst having dinner, or when returning from a night out.

Private bungalows: Cheaper accomodation compared to hotels

Hello everyone!

I recently started my website of Free classified adverts in Mauritius.
It is also a web directory where companies publish their contact details, there you can get information about privately rented bungalows, travel agencies and even trade business contacts.

So if you are looking for accommodation, travelling agencies, tours in Mauritius, and loads of other gudztuff.. find the right one on www.gudztuff.com.

You are most welcome to place your advert for the things you are looking for in Mauritius, I am certain that the companies will contact you very quickly to give you their best quotes and the best deals!

Quick tip: It is much much cheaper to rent a private bungalow for a few weeks in Mauritius than stay in a hotel for a few days in the same locality!! ;)

Oceal Villas: Nice but windy beach

It's said that Mauritius is really expensive, but there are several decent priced hotels around the island. Ocean Villas has really nice private beach, but most of the days it was really windy on that side of the bay...The breakfast is served at the outdoor cafe in the garden.

Moevenpick Resort & Spa: Relaxing Spa Resort

Enjoy a very relaxing and comfortable stay the the Moevenpick Resort & Spa. Despite its size, this resort doesn't feel crowded at all!
The deluxe rooms have got great spaceous bathrooms, bit bathtube and outdoor shower on the ground floor rooms. They have sea view and direct access to the beach.
However, the rooms have a slight colonial touch, with heavy curtains. I really liked it but it's not everybody's coup of tea!

Unique Quality: Fantastic Spa with relaxation aeria in the garden and ecological solarium in the tower.
Great Bathrooms with big bathtube and outdoor shower on the ground floor rooms.
