Belle Mare Plage

by BluBluBlu

I had a wonderful time here at I knew the MD.So I was taken out on personal trips rather than on tour buses.

The Hotel is a 4* and is on the eastern coast. Its just south of St Geran Hotel (which is gorgeous), and just north of Coco Beach Hotel.

It has a wonderful setting on a lovely white sand beach. Own 18 hole champioship golf course

Another beautiful beach.
Go there on sundays, when there are hundreds of families doing picnic, grilling and drinking beer and rum. Great party atmosphere!

Sheer Bliss !!

After just returning from the Belle Mare Plage we felt compelled to write a review on this fabulous hotel.

We were there to celebrate out honeymoon and this hotel didn't let us down. We had our room upgraded from a Prestige Room to a Junior Suite and the accomodation was very nicely decorated and somewhere that you wanted to spend time in. Housekeeping staff were excellent and kept the room spotless, changing the towels twice a day and even turning down your bed on an evening.

We stayed on a half board basis and ate in the buffet restuarant La Citronnelle most evenings. The food was of a very high quality with a huge variety of different cuisines to choose from. We ate in the a la carte restaurant The Blue Penny one evening (part of the honeymoon package), the food and the staff in here were outstanding, we would definitely reccommend that you eat in this restaurant at least once during your stay, it was one of the most memorable nights of our holiday.

A slight disappointment was the Beach Front BBQ. It was very nice to dine on the beach but we felt that it was overpriced given that the food they served was so similar to the food in the main restaurant. Also the only selection of wines available on this night seemed to be from the higher priced end of the regular wine list. On this note, the only other negative comment we have about the holiday is the cost of the drinks. We found them to be very high and staff did try and push the more expensive bottles of wine on us. We also calculated that during our 10 night stay we spent £40 on water alone!!!

The pools and beach front facilities were fabulous and the staff operating in these areas were extremely attentive. We didn't partake in any watersports (due to a dodgy knee!) but there were plently of these available.

Our stay at the Belle Mare Plage was above our expectations, the staff were incredibly friendly, grounds were beautiful, weather was great, it was just what were were looking for from our honeymoon.

We would highly reccommend the Belle Mare Plage, it's a wonderful hotel.

we (hubby & i) flew belfast -heathrow -mauritius and everything was just perfect even after the heighten security measures and and a delay on homeward flight but nothing could dispel the most wonderful time we had. we had honeymooned in the maldives in 2004 which was terriffice but not a patch on belle mare plage. what can i say the place the staff the food the ambience just perfect!! an adult holiday which was exactly what we wanted not a teenager in sight!! after rearing your kids a perfect pat on the back for all parents. we did upgrade to a suite but i expect that even the standard rooms would be of a high expectation as everything is completely customer orientated and a total heaven for golf loving husbands with plenty of spa treatments for wives who may feel neglected!

Magic Mauritius

by TripAdvisor Member Westcare1

My partner and I spent two of the most sensational weeks at the Belle mare Plage hotel in early September. Mauritius is a very special place in itself but the Belle Mare plage made it all so much better. The weather was great with only 1 day of rain in 14 days.
We had a Junior Beach Front Suite which was superb and we slept each night listening to the ocean. Our housekeping supervisor Anoop looked after us really well and keep an eye out for him.

As we had half board, we ate in La Citronelle for breakfast and dinner.....what can I say, more food than i've ever seen in my life and of the highest quality. There are also staff waiting to carry your plate back to your table as you leave the buffet.

The pools are all magnificent and the staff around them are very attentive, especially Jeetoo, he will take care of all your needs in food and drink and he does it with a smile.

Just a couple of points to watch for.
1. There are no tea or coffee making facilities in the rooms, but if you ask Housekeeping they may be able to arrange a kettle for you, along with some cups and saucers.
2.The wine prices are outrageous in some of the restaurants (40 Euros for two glasses of red) Go down the the local supermarket and buy the Argentinian reds for about 5 Euro a bottle, they're great.

All in all, one of the best hotels in the world with the best staff, a view from the restaurant that will stay in our minds forever and many wonderful memories of a beautiful island with such gentle people. Don't miss it...........Go now !

Second time as good as the first - wonderful place

by TripAdvisor Member Vashpapa

Our 18 day stay at Belle Mare Plage (BMP) in November was wonderful. We can't wait to go back.

We had previously visited BMP in December 2005. We now discover that we like the weather better in November. The temperature was warm, but less so than in December with less humidity.

The main reason we like Mauritius and BMP is the people. They are uniformly the most gracious, caring and friendly people we've ever encountered. Everyone from the people cleaning the rooms to the people in the restaurants to the hotel management were interested in making sure we were happy with our stay in Mauritius and at BMP in particular.

We celebrated our second wedding anniversary on this latest trip. We received complimentary wine and an delicious choclate cake during our anniversary dinner in the La Spiaggia restaurant.

Things we liked the best:

Using the aerobics room to practice our salsa dancing in the afternoon then trying out the moves in the bar later that night. Bring your own boom-box or equivalent for the practice sessions. Latin dance show in the bar on Wednesday nights worth seeing.

Couples spa treatment - coconut scrub, hot mud wrap, massage. Romantic and relaxing. We had three sessions during our stay.

Golf - courses were in excellent shape. Caddies are knowledgable -- if only I could play as well as they caddy. Bring your sticks. Club rental is a bit pricey.

Prestige Room was clean and comfortable. We liked ground floor room on the beach. (See photo.)

Wide variety of food in the half-board buffets. OD on the fresh fruit, but at least try the chocolate ice cream. Yum. La Spiaggia restaurant (with supplement) is excellent.

If forced to note things less than perfect:

They stopped having beach volleyball and I loved playing that on our first trip. Too bad, but wind was up for windsurfing so never mind.

Drink prices are painfully high: 4-euros for a beer, a bottle of wine for at least 30-euros. Take the time to go to Belle Mare village and buy your own supply at the market. (Saying that, we never did -- we were on holiday so what the heck?)

Mauritius and Belle Mare Plage -- we love it.

Beautiful Island in the Indian Ocean

by TripAdvisor Member Kaimai

Me and my Husband had the most enjoyable, relaxing time of our lives whilst on Honeymoon at the Belle Mare Plage resort. Our Honeymoon was a beautiful experience, most importantly because I was with my Husband, but the Hotel, the service of the staff was faultless. After our 11hour flight from paris, we were shattered and were received like family by the reception staff. We had a nice view of the ocean from the Reception area and were taken to have breakfast - which we were not expecting. The staff in the Restaurant bought out breakfast from the variety offered at the buffet bars and someone then showed us our room, or as we called it, our apartment. The view was STUNNING - we could see palm trees, the ocean and also the small beach bar area. There was a pool outside our room and the beach was a 2 minute walk. the beach as ever so clean and sand so soft. The service on the beach was friendly and towels for the loungers were readily available. In the evening, the Restaurant offered a wide selection of cuisines and the theme changed everyday, as did the entertainment in the bar. The Restaurant staff were very friendly and always interacted with the guests and made them feel at home.
Our experience at this hotel has been the best yet and I think will remain the best, as we are an extremely fussy couple and since our honeymoon have been on a coupl of short breaks at high class hotels, none of which have come even close to matching theBelle Mare Plage in its service, friendliness, cleanliness, helpfulness.

We're going to the Bell Mare Plage Hotel in January for our honeymoon. Has anyone been there yet? What was it like? Any tips? Thanks!

Re: Belle Mare Plage Hotel

by sapsiwai

Tips: Belle Mare has one of the best public beach on the eat coast. Try to take a taxi or bus and go to Poste Lafayette, and stop at each of the nearby public beaches. Around three nice spots but NOT for bathing.

Just to let you know that we've now been to the Belle Mare Plage Resort and haven't been happy at all. The beach in front of the hotel is very bad, never swam in it. The staff are incompetent. As to room 945, AVOID IT AT ALL COSTS!!!

Re: Re: Belle Mare Plage Hotel

So sorry to hear about that. I guess the public beach is nice though.

Belle Mare Plage

We are booked into this hotel at the end of September where we intend to play a fair amount of golf.

If anyone has stayed at the Belle Mare Plage could they please help with the following questions?

1. Is it difficult to get tee times on either (or both) of the hotel's linked courses?
2. What are the best times to play?
3. Are there other golf courses nearby that you would recommend?
4. General views about the hotel?
5. What is the food like?
6. Which restaurant on the complex would you recommend?
7. What are the rooms like (we're booked into a Prestige room)?
8. Thinking of doing a day's deep sea /game fishing - is it available nearby and what is the per person cost?

Sorry to ask so many questions, but would appreciate any comments, please.

Thank you.

Bravo Echo

For anyone wanting to know how much drinks cost at Belle mare Plage...

by originalribenababy

A lot of people worry when they got to Mauritius half board that their drinks are going to be really expensive, especially at Belle Mare Plage.

Belle Mare Plage are trying these drinks prices out on trial until the end of August. Lets hope they decide to keep them!

-Mini Bar

Snacks drop from Euro 4 to Euro 3
Beer from Euro 4.5 to Euro 2.8
Whisky from Euro 20 to Euro 14

-Main Bar

This area has also been revised and several commonly ordered drinks have been reviewed namely:

Beers from Euro 4.5 to Euro 2.8 (not bad really!)
Squeezed juice from Euro 4 to Euro 3
Coke from Euro 3 to Euro 2
Crystal water from Euro 3.5 to Euro 1.8
Imported Sparkling water from Euro 5.5 to Euro 4.5
Hot beverages from Euro 3 to Euro 2.5
Cocktails from Euro 8.5 to Euro 6.75 (this would be the one where I spent the most cash... they make incredible Mojitos at Belle Mare :D)

Also in regards to the wine menus a larger selection of wines in between Euro 19 to Euro 23 has been introduced. Wine per glasses has also been reviewed from Euro 6 to Euro 4.

Hope that give people advice who were worrying about breaking the bank :)

Hi - the information here will be useful to other travelers but since it is not a travel question, will either be deleted or disappear as it travels down the forum. If you haven't done so, write the information up as travel tips on your Mauritius pages so it can be shared with other VT members. Happy Travels!

Thanks Donna, didn't really know where to put it really, as its only an offer until the end of august so didn't think it was worth putting it as a tip for just one month
