More about Silver Beach Hotel
Great sea view.
Enjoyable 7 nights here, 3 star hotel and deserving of it. Whilst we were there we overheard two couples complaining as it wasn't to their satisfaction as they were more used to 4 and 5 star hotels, well if you want a 4 or 5 star hotel you should have booked one.
It is a really good, clean hotel directly on the beach with great sea views from some rooms. Staff very friendly and entertainment every night. Based on All Inclusive
Free Water Sports
Free pool table, table tennis, darts
Breakfast, Lunch, Snack, Cake and Tea are the meals, near enough all day food available
Drinks all day
Wedding at the Silver Beach
We have just returned from the most amazing holiday experience ever. We were married at the Silver Beach Hotel in Mauritius. The hotel is beautiful, clean and so friendly, we endevour to return there again soon. The staff made us feel so special and nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were immaculate and dressed with flowers every day. The excursions were fantastic, we went by speed boat to the waterfalls, the island of Ille aux Cerfs and deep sea fishing by boat. All booked through the hotel which saved us a lot of money. We had three of our five children with us and they had a great time. The hotel is very safe and they found plenty to explore. The entertainment was unbelieveable especially JUDE and his band. They sang at our wedding & we both cried. He is so talented and sings such a variety of songs. A truly wonderful holiday.
married at silver beach
What a fantastic little hotel. Had a two week stay their from the 30th May til 12 June.
A very clean hotel with a fantastic restaurant. The food and service was definateyl 5* and not 3* as stated.
The entertainment in the evening is mainly carried out by the wonderful Jude. He sings with different people most nights, and we hired him to sing at our wedding.
Jude can also be found at the beach hut in the mornings, you can book your excursions with him at a very reasonable rate.
The speed boat trip to I'll aux cerfes is fantastic, had a trip other there with Pat and Joe (hi you two)which was lovely. A B-B-Q on the beach and my 1st taste of Lobster.
Then comes our wedding, we were treated like royalty for the whole day. It was on 06-06-06 so we anticipated hic-cups but everything was fabulous. Anything that we needed was done plus extras. Highly recommended to anyone that fancies jetting off to get wed.
Hi to Charlotte and Dean who also got married there that week.
We're definately thinking of going back there next year for our 1st anniversary
What can i say... FANTASTIC
We have just returned after spending 2 fantastic weeks at the Silver Beach Hotel from 20/4 -4/5. We booked our holiday through Murcury Direct and flew with Air Mauritius and was treated extremely well from start to finish of our journey! This is a 3 star hotel but you are treated like 5 star guests. Nothing is too much trouble they are happy to please you, always with smile on their faces! The food is fantastic waiter served for 5 nights buffet for 2 nights a week. We think we had the best room in the hotel room number 401 you open your curtains and from the balcony you have a view of the lawn and beach and then the coral reef if was beautiful. We were lucky enough for a our first week to have Vickram as our chamber boy he was a little gem. Every day we came back to our room and he had sculptured our towels into amusing shapes and added beautful flowers as the finishing touch. We used the speed boat at a cost of 2ruppess each for a return journey to the il eux chef which is 10 minutes away and that was a thrilling experience bouncing through the waters at speed, the island is beautiful if you walk as far as you can on the left of the island its like 'Paradise' clear blue waters with white sand and fantastic coloured fish, we spent 2 enjoyable days there. We did 2 excurisons 1 to the north and 1 to the south of the Island, the north was great the south was better in the afternoon as the morning was spent going to their 'shops' which were, carpet factorys, expensive jewlery shops (which we all declined to go into) and their miniture boat making factory, which was infact very interesting but not really what we wanted to see. The afternoon we went to the, dormant volcano. a waterfall and the seven coloured sands.
If you like to snorkel just to the left of the Hotel you will see the most amazing fish and if you take a bread roll out you can feed them we spent many hours in the water and each day we were delighted as we saw different coloured fish. You do need to take some kind of water proof shoes as the sand in the water is full of coral and you could easily hurt your feet we took shoes and came away cut free!
I would highly recommend this hotel. If you would like any other information you can contact me.
Enjoy your holidays
What a fabulous service
What an unbelievable service we received at this hotel. We stayed at the Silver beach hotel from the 8th of May until the 17th.
We flew with Air Mauritius (better flight on the way up then on the way back, mainly because the plane was packed on the way back) and that was a pleasant experience.
On arrival after the 12 hour flight and the 1 hour and 15 minutes minibus trip, we thought…ok…is this it? Christmas tablecloths, Barbie sheets on the salade table, small pool…mmmm
Let’s go to sleep for a little while and look at it again with fresh eyes. And indeed after waking up several hours later everything got brighter and brighter. The service ….. really out of this world. Not a single time we had the feeling they were just being friendly because they wanted a tip. The smiles were genuine, the service was not silver but gold..When the glas was less full then up to the top it was refilled, we were treated like royals….
The way the food was presented…lots of tv chefs can get some lessons from the chefs at this hotel. The waiters were fantastic and I have got to say a special hello to Vishal (Geordie) who made our holiday the best ever. Knowing what they earn a month…and he bought me a Football shirt from the Mauritius national team. When I said I liked chillies he made me some at home and gave it to me the next day.
And when I thanked him because all of he had done all he said was…It’s my job..
Did not want a tip, nothing..
So I have sent him something I knew he liked from England (I asked for his address while we were there). The people there are very special.
The underwater walk was fabulous…Ille Au cerfs was amazing.. We did several other trips and enjoyed them all, especially the dolphin trip on the west coast.
When we heard that the pool was gonna be closed for a week we were very dissapointed but the management gave everybody free trips to the Island and put a fantastic BBQ up there with some live music from the chefs and the waiters. That was the first time the waiters could have a laugh with eachother as well because all they normally do is work.
They always have time for a chat and a laugh so make sure you will have a laugh with them. They love football by the way (soccer for our American friends)
Not a single sunbed was taken by any towels early in the morning, like what happens in so many other resorts and the royal service and superb quality of the food made this holiday fantastic.
By the way, if you don’t like any of the courses they put on the menu for you then all you have to do is tell them. They will make you something different with no problems at all.

Fabulous food, fabulous staff
Some of the comments about the Silver Beach still did not prepare us for our initial disappointment at the appearance of this hotel - on entering the restaurant area, it looked decidedly shabby and in need of updating, and the Christmas teddy tablecloths (it was April) made us think, "What are we letting ourselves in for?"
First impressions, however, were soon dispelled. The food was fantastic, beautifully presented with an incredible choice every day, for both lunch and evening meal.
The staff couldn't do enough for you, plying us with drinks and making sure everything was all right.
We had a garden 'bungalow' (it was upstairs!) which was very spacious, with a huge walk in shower which looked past its best, but which was actually extremely powerful, a small balcony overlooking the garden and a well stocked mini-bar, part of the all-inclusive package. Bed linen and towels were changed daily and the amazing things our cleaning boy did with the towels (swans, shirts, ships) made us smile every day when we went back to the room.
The pool was tiny - we never used it - but the location on the beach was superb. The wind kept us cool and there were umpteen things to do if you wanted a more energetic time.
We did the undersea walk, which was amazing, and took taxis for a north and south tour of the island (don't use the reps - they are much more expensive- just get the hotel to get you a taxi from outside, it's much cheaper and you call the shots!) The catamaran trip to the island is also worthwhile, although the boathouse boys do a daily trip there as well on their speed boat, which is cheaper.
We had a fabulous time in a great hotel and would definitely go back there again if we were to revisit Mauritius.
Lovely little hotel
We spent 5 days at the Silver Beach. As the previous writer says, we too were a little disappointed as it looked a little dated and in need of some TLC (the cake table once had a Barbie Doll table cloth on which made us smile!). Our room was a garden bungalow on the ground floor (we met some people in an upper floor room facing the beach whose room was much smaller than ours so our initial disappointment at not being allocated a sea view room soon disappeared). The all inclusive package was great - breakfasts were a little basic but lunch and dinner were fantastic. If you want burger and chips - forget it, this food was superb, all freshly cooked with fresh ingredients. All the staff were great (espeically Ryan behind the bar who was football mad!). If you want to stretch your legs - you can walk along the beach. If you go left, right past the headland you will come to a lovely park area with tree-lined paths to offer you some shade from the sun. The locals tend to meet here late afternoon with their picnics and you can watch the local men fishing waist deep in the Indian Ocean. Walk to the left and you will pass several small hotels, privately owned houses before reaching a small village with a scattering of shops and cafes. We hired a taxi (£30 in total) to take us to Port Louis (the capital) for some retail therapy. Be sure to agree a price before you set off and a pick up time. You must barter in the shops - not sure if we got many bargains but it was good fun! Nightimes at the hotel are pretty quiet - the bar shuts at midnight so if you want a later night, get a bottle of wine and sit outside in the garden. One thing to note, keep your eye on the clouds - we got caught out whilst on one of our walks with a torrential rain storm - which lasted around 30 minutes and then the sun was back out again! All in all, a lovely small hotel which we would highly recommend.
Quiet, relaxing holiday
We have just returned from Silver beach after a weeks holiday as part of a twin centre holiday for our honeymoon (the first hotel being in South Africa).
After checking in at the hotel we were shown to our room and as we were on our honeymoon we received a complementary fruit platter and a bottle of champagne, we also received a sarong and t-shirt.
We stayed in a garden bungalow and probably because of this we had a slight ant problem in the bathroom, however within minutes of us reporting this (they were around the toilet bowl after all) a member of staff arrived and resolved the problem for us. However due to the location of the accomodation I can hardly blame the hotel for this.
Unfortunatley for us we picked the one week out the year that hotel decided to close the pool for re-painting, so we did not have this facility, however the hotel owner did provide free trips to isle aux cerfs for the whole week, and offered us the use of a pool of a neighbouring hotel if we wished.
We are unsure whether this was for the ant problem or the lack of pool but we did receive another free bottle of bubbly with the managements 'apologies for the inconvenience' which was a very kind and courtious touch.
The beach is a narrow stretch which has a great deal of coral washed up from the reef, so I can highly recommend water shoes. Various water sports are offered if you are staying with the 'All inclusice' plan, such as snorkeling, windsurfing, kayaking etc However at this time of year, they do recommend that you do not swim near the reefs due to the strengh of the sea currents.
The service provided from the staff was excellent, and no sooner had you put your glass down on the table, that it was being filled again. The food was also excellent and of a high quality.
Previous trip advisers have commented on the christmas and barbie table cloths, and yes they are still being used in May, not sure if this is the hotels sense of humour or not but they did have other plain coloured table cloths too :o) Various parts of the hotel could do with updating but all in all it is a nice hotel.
A little gem in paradise
We have just returned from the Silver Beach after spending 11 nights on All Inclusive basis.
What a wonderfull hotel. We arrived at 5.00am and although check in was not until 1.00pm the receptionist gave us our sea view room without hesitstion. The hotel is spotlessly clean but does lack a lot of the glitz of the larger resorts, however the staff and location more than make up for this.
The service as stated in previous reviews cannot be faulted, the guy's go above the call of duty and you know this is genuine they really do want to give you the best holiday they can. The food is really good none of the baked overheated rubbish you can get on some All Inclusive deals, but freshly cooked breakfast buffet with buffet lunch and 5 couse dinner served at the table.
I have to mention Kamlesh, one of the resturant supervisors as he made our stay even more enjoyable and is a wealth of knowledge.
Vikram our room attendant made us laugh with his creative towel dressing each day and even gave us more beer than we should have had in the mini bar.
All of the waiters are football crazy and are really looking forward to the World Cup, they want to talk about it all day but again are great fun.
This hotel is only 3 star but this rating should only be relevant to the building and should have 5 Stars for food, service and location.
I would have no hesitation in recommending this hotel and intend to return in the near future
The Best Hotel
This hotel is everything everyone says it is. I stayed at 4 hotels during my stay, some of them 5 star and this hotel topped them all. The food and service were superb. The crowd is a bit older but there were some young people there, and the older people were cool to hang with. Seemed to be a partying crowd and we had a few late nites, but great fun. The all inclusive package rocked and I recommend the trip to Ile Aux Cerf. The pool wasnt the best but they are redoing it now. A great value for the money

RE: RE: silver beach resort
Just wonder what your take is on this chikungunya virus that is going round Mauritius. Sounds worrying. we have spent a small fortune on mozzie sprays etc. Have emailed Virgin to see if cancellation is an option but no reply as yet. Misty
RE: RE: silver beach resort
virgin told us no cancellations unless the foreign office declare it unsafe, obviously a lot of people have asked,if it was on;ly one or two they would probably let you change for somewhere else, we are a bit concerned ourselves but like yourselves taking loads of sprays... i take a cup of marmite every night it gives you plenty vitamin d and the mozzies hate it,normally i get bit all the time ,but in sri lanka and the maldives i never got bitten but others in the party did,, anything is worth a try..
we will be ok i`m sure
RE: RE: silver beach resort
theres quite a lot of info on this site
My partner and I are a lesbian couple and are planning a holiday to Mauritius, to the Silver Beach resort. Does anyone know if gay couples are not welcomed to this island? Any information would be gratefully received.
RE: Gay friendly?
Hi, sorry - I thought I had heard it somewhere but have just had a look and it appears that homosexuality is illegal in Mauritius - a bit behind the times I know but....
Anyway, have a look at this link and it states it under local laws and customs.
Obviously not sure how strict it is, especially in tourist hotels but it might be worth you giving them a call and asking.
RE: Gay friendly?
I just returned from mauritius and stayed at the silver beach hotel, it was alot of older people mixed with a few younger and there were some gay people there. The resort is great, I stayed at 4 different hotels some of them 5 star and this hotel was the best, its 5 star service, the food was great and it was a good time. I highly recomment it
RE: Gay friendly?
Mauritius is still conservative about this issue.but i am pretty sure that things are done in a private and discrete manner.just hang around popular tourist places like Grand Baie, Pereybere, Flic en Flac and you will get what you are looking for if you are lucky!Email me on VT mail if you want some more info from a local...
RE: RE: Gay friendly?
Good friends of mine (very discreet lesbian couple) went there in 1999 they stayed in the Grand Baie area and had no problems.
