Problems booking hotel with my moroccon girlfriend?

by P124

Hi there,

I want to book a holiday with my Moroccon girlfriend and we want to book somewhere in Agadir as we plan to visit her family who live there. Ive scoured the web and it looks like this might be a problem in some hotels as we are not married and my girlfriend is Morrocon and I British. Can anyone please advise if there is a decent place we can stay. I dont want to have to resort to a seedy hotel or have to pay double for a seperate room for her. Just simply want to go on holiday together.

Any feedback much appreciated
Thanks
P

its a bit difficult in Agadir - you need inside knowledge to find a hotel that will allow it as its officially illegal - some higher star hotels will do it so you need to find someone who knows which ones will or who have contacts at one that will - the seedy ones wont so dont worry you have to resort to one of them!! - and there are apartments that will allow it...

Otherwise you need 2 rooms but even then they wont necessarily allow you because they wont risk the problems involved if there is some random police check....

also you need to check that her family will allow it - even if shes been away from Morocco they might not be accepting of the connotations - have you met her family yet? - to be respectful she should also be providing you with some information , ie most likely via her connections that are in Agadir, on what is the best or acceptable thing to do to minimise the risk of conflict between her and her family or whether she is being genuine with you.

In MOrocco things are normally done by who knows who knows who...

I would forget about hotels and look for a vacation rental, an apartment for a week or something like that - preferably foreign owned - you could handle it directly with the owner, just say you are with a friend, go alone for the keys or something like that - I doubt if the police check such rentals - plus it is nice to have an apartment, be at home, able to cook, etc - It is such a tourist place that there should be lots of offers - good luck!

Travel Tips for Agadir

The beach

by Leipzig

Well, Agadir might not be all that spectacular. But the beach simply is; clean, fine grained, very long and wide - just how a beach should be. The water temperature of the Atlantic Ocean is about 22°C (72°F) in the summer - very refreshing as the air has 30°C (86°F) and up!

Soccer

by solopes

The wide beach of Agadir, in the afternoon, looks like a series of soccer fields. Hundreds of youngster share the large space in a never ending animated competition. The wet sand is hard making the games look more like the regular soccer than beach football. I think that only in Brazil we saw something alike.

Taghazoute and Tamharkt

by kadjak

As we live in the busy metropolitan of Paris, on our holiday we naturally look for calm places and unspoiled nature. Already the second day after our arrival we took the bus number 12 (you can catch it from the Boulevard Mohammed V) to Taghazoute. Taghazoute is a small fisherman village about 17km north from Agadir. Between Taghazoute and Tamharkt (village before) there is an enourmous beach, which was (at least in September) almost empty. We rented surfboards from a local and left our bags to his private beach ( we were the only customers) while we went surfing. The surfing spot we liked the most was called "Devil's rock". By the way surfboards weren't that easy to find, we were really lucky to bumb into a local surfer. The best way to find boards to rent is to contact a surf school called 'Dynamic Loisirs', owned by french couple in Tamharkt

Taroudannt, walled city

by sachara

Taroudannt is 85 KM east of Agadir. You can easily go there on a daytrip.

Taroudannt is a nice traditional Berber market town surrounded by red-mud walls. Especially the walls are striking. At the background of Taroudannt you have a nice view at the Atlas mountains.

We visited Taroudannt twice in 2000 and 2001. We enjoyed visiting the souqs, to walk around in the town, to have a drink and of course having a look at the spectacular walls. It felt if the atmosphere in and around the town didn't really change for the last 100 years.

Ship building yard and Kasbah

by sachara

Near the quays of the port of Agadir we saw also a ship building yard. It was interesting to see the different phases of constructing the wooden carcass.

I visited the ship builiding yard in 1992, but in 2007 when I visited the kasbah, I saw that the ship building yard is still there at the same place (see picture 4).

At the background (picture 1) you see the hill with the Kasbah of Agadir. Only the ramparts were partially rebuilt after the earth quake of 1960, but noting remains within. At the foot of the Kasbah was the medina, now covered by soil and grass. Thousands of people died here by the earth quake.

A: "P.S. if there are more upmarket restaurants suitable for me, what is an evening meal likely to cost, excluding drinks."
