Large hotel in a nice location 27 km up my favourite road in Morocco - the Dades Gorge road - just before the hair spin bends and situated in amongst sloping ochre cliffs and a river. Perfect spot for walks around the Gorges area and for continuing the drive on further to gorges and the spectacular sights along the way to Msemrir
Very friendly and professional staff - the management will make you feel very welcome and look after you - excellent menu choice and the meals are excellent - open and available till late. large spacious rooms, modern but with the tradtional Moroccan accessories that add that character and atmosphere to your stay. The rooms that face the river all have their own balcony so thats excellent. Theres an open air dining area across the road next to the river as well which is nice for those long warm nights. Very cold at winter but there are plans for heating to be installed for this coming winter. A favourite place of mine to be in is in Telouet - surrounded by beautiful countryside in so many different colours and shapes - in a valley amongst valleys and mountains of the TizinTichka mid-Atlas range about 2 hours from Marrakech. Its a berber area with numerous small villages around with many villagers coming into town from miles around on Thursdays for the souk day. Which also provides more sights and atmosphere - and photo opportunities. I love it! Its quiet and remote - with great walking or driving that can be enjoyed to take up the diverse scenes and scenery to be found in the area - along to Tasgha, up to Anmiter and Tigzha even more remote up into the mountains where you can go a little further up to the Tamda Lakes. People in the area are generally friendly or keep to their community interests though if you are driving into town or arriving off the bus there are a few businesses who will have touts who are really just advertising boards marketing but physically actively trying to catch business prospects when they can into an area that as it is still fairly remote could always do with the tourist cash. A warning with this is that if you have a particular place in mind to do business - such as come and stay at this accommodation that Im recommending there is a chance that there will be dishonest persons that will tell youi that this place is closed or not good to lure you off to theirs!
Jackies House is a house owned by a French woman which is managed by Hassan and his lovely wife and availalbe for rent when shes away. Its a lovely little selfcontained house partitioned from the half of the house that Hassan and his famly live in - so theyre right next door but you have as much privacy if you wish. If you want to have breakfast and meals provided than Hassan will happily look after you with the excellent cooking of his wife and all at a reasonable price. The place is compounded off on a large piece of land up behind the town centre, near to where the weekly souks are held, overlooking a picturesque valley behind. You have a small kitchen included if you wish to do your own cooking - you could bring what you need with from Marrakech - which is part of what I like about travelling independently in my own rental car - or there are small shops in town and a weekly souk on thursdays with fresh produce. A new guest house has also been built so now there are more rooms available - a walking group was there when I last visited who were sitting down to a multi course lunch. What's going on here then? by blint It can be hard getting accommodation in the main tourist towns in Morocco if you arrive late in the day. Either try and book ahead or be willing to settle for ANY room you can find even if it means 7 in a bed!!!!! This is what happened to us upon our arrival in Meknes in August. Then to our horror after a very early awakening so we could travel to Volubilis, we found we were locked in!!! There was no one on reception and no way out. So always make sure you notify someone if you are planning an early departure! Theme: HotelComparison: about average

The view from the terrace of the Hotel de Foucald by Paul2001 I actually stayed here on three different occasions while in Morocco. This was by accident rather than design. However it did not disappoint. The rooms could use some minor maintenance such as a fresh coat of paint but the plumbing is fine.
The hotel has a very good restaurant. The staff was helpful and friendly ( I should have listened to them about eating in the Djenaa el Fna). The location is hard to beat as it is just about 300m from the Djenaa el Fna. My only beef about the hotel was that it could get noisy as there were a bunch of English school children staying at the hotel one night. This hotel is popular with budget tours heading up to the Atlas Mountains. by Paul2001 The Hotel Marco Polo was not in the least way, fancy hotel but it suited me fine when I arrived in Tangier. The hotel is right on the waterfront, close to the beach. It is also only a ten minute walk from the old town. One the downside, the hotel could use a little maintenance.
The staff here was quite friendly. The restaurant was actually pretty good and should be recommended. It serves German food. There is also a bar which fortunately is well to the front of the hotel so that the noise from it will not keep you awake at night. BERBER VILLAGE OF TAMTATTOUCHT The Berber village of Tamtettoucht sets in the heart of the Atlas Mountains, Morocco. Its name comes from ancient times when this entire valley was controlled by the Ait Izdi. Once, this family maintained crops while nomads from the mountains hunted and collected herbs. Often these two people came together in the rural community market to exchange goods. When the Ait Izdi moved to Ziz valley these mountain nomads were invited to take care of the crops with a twelve-monthly payment of half the harvest. Each year a caravan of donkeys would cross the Atlas Mountains to delivery the annual fee ending with a vast feast. Tamda means "place with water good enough to plant" and Toucht "leasing of fields with yearly payment". External Link to this page here: Gorges du Todra

View from Hotel Cascade Fez by blint Cascade is a budget hotel although it is spacious and well equipped. It even has hot water and one European style toilet in two. The hotel comes equipped with is own Ali G style Character who can get you anything you want including Alcohol which is not easy to come by in Muslim countries (but do expect to pay over the odds). It also has a roof garden where you can even sleep in summer if you want to. It seems to be a popular thing to do in Morocco. You must bring your own sleeping bag to do this though. If you don’t fancy sleeping out there it’s a great place to watch the stars (with less light pollution in Africa they are incredible).
Ali G (though watch out he's quite a ladies man. Theme: HotelComparison: less expensive than averageDirections: Right by the gateway into Fez

Reading through the reviews in the guidebook all the cheaper hotels seemed to be located within the medina and are of about equal standard and price. So again I decided to stay at one of the cheaper ones in the Ville Nouvelle. The criteria was somewhere near to the station, and somewhere that I felt would be the easiest to find should I end up getting lost. Hotel Toubkal (named after a region in the High Atlas) according to the guidebook is one of the more decent budget range hotels . and just about a fifteen minute walk to the Medina. The Entrance to the hotel could easily be missed were it not right next to the Large Café Toubkal that fronts the building, with the hotel being situated above. The young man who greeted me at the reception desk showed me the largish room on the first floor. It had a nice tiled floor and some ornate old wooden shutters that led to a small balcony onto the front of the building and overlooking the main road. He told me it would cost 70 DH per night, plus an additional 10 DH if I wanted to use the shower room. This was, I thought, good value for the room, it was spacious and had a large bed, but no en-suite facility. But then again I thought what do you expect for this kind of money. I liked it; it had everything I needed namely a bed!
In the heart of the New part of town, 15 minute walk to the medina. Close to the railway station and restaurants, e.t.c.

The Hotel Royal, just a five minute walk from the station. Leaving the station you walk in a virtually straight line up a tree lined avenue that reminded me of the layout you find in a lot of Spanish towns. The old man who ran the Royal was very friendly and gave me a room on the ground floor that had a nice view out onto the courtyard. It was clean, very spacious and even had en-suite shower with hot water, all for 100 DH a night, payable in advance
Close to station and the main part of the new town. All the tourist attractions are within walking distance, or a short taxi rides away.
