view from the roof over the ksar &palmeraie behind by angiebabe Decorated using traditional Moroccan styles this place has a lovely atmosphere and decor. Good restaurant providing traditional Moroccan cuisine. Friendly and hospitable staff and service.
This lovely riad style accommodation is a renovated annex of an old ksar complex - a traditional fortified village style where many people lived in a rabbit warren type complex protected by prevalent marauding tribes or animals - so the remaining ruins next door are fascinating for a tour around. Also the beautiful palmeraie behind that goes for miles before the stunning mountain range that runs on down to Zagora makes a photogenic and atmospheric location. There are opportunities for interesting walks, guides available through Riad Malal, down through the palmeraie and also to rock drawings as part of a 2 hour guided walk. The family run establishment also have their own agency and connections in which to take tours down into the dunes and desert of the Sahara - day trips or overnight - with or without camels - and the other various sights around Zagora or on futher around Morocco. by ccwyin this is typical of hostals that you'd find in the maze of red walls slightly off the main square in Marrakech. bright & airy, with central courtyard. tiles and mosiac everywhere. very clean grounds (these singing Berber? ladies with facial tattoos scrub the floors every morning), nice roof-top hang-out area. no beers, sorry. fellow pot-smoking backpackers, yes. bedrooms not so good; small, old, lumpy beds. but clean. extra for hot showers. luxury it is not. authentic, exotic, art film-like factor, yes :)
abt USD10. nice people. great roof terrace. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageDirections: Off main square. near a public hammam

hotyel **** by cadzand This was a great experience. We arrived at sunset, welcomed by a camp fire, live music and belly dancers, camels waiting for us for a ride through the desert. After a fantastic tagine with local wine, a cup of mint tea and some honey sweets under the moonlite sky, we disappeared under the blankets until the early morning. We woke up long before sunrise - in fact we almost didn't sleep, telling some hilarous stories -, swept away the sand we had allover and stand there breathless when pale sunbeams appeared from behind the mountains. The sun enlightened progressively the contours of the sanddunes all around. While we stand there, admiring those beautiful surroundings, we suddenly found out that next to our "hotel" had parked some helicopters.... what a strange view, when a camel caravan came along..... And then there was a delicious breakfast.
Great view. No pool of course :-)) sand everywhere though. 7bed room. Separate toilets with zip at walking distance. No shower :-)) Don't forget cleansing towels and torch.

If you want a totally safe base hotel in one of the more overlooked parts of Fes - Fes Jdid - you can't do better than Hotel Agadir. Karim and his wife rock. Views from his terrace are beautiful at dawn. The energy is totally wild here. The hotel is just across from Bab Smaraine. Human traffic and noise levels are fairly constant. You will be in an absolute minority as a tourist in this area. It just works. But listen, the whole area has a real late night Bronxy edge to it, so I can only recommend this place for adventurers and folks fit enough to take care of themselves. I stayed here for two months at one point and put myself on a fast track to learning about Morocco... Supposedly the best hotel in Marocco and it probably is, but the room was not entirely worth the expense or up to the billing of 'leading hotel of the world'. If you're gonna spend the money, just go all out and get a pool/garden view room or suite. The public areas are very good and the service is good except for the snooty front desk people, but I've stayed in better resort hotels for less. A coke costs $5 and my wife had a glass of champange in the piano bar for $25. Yikes. I completely stocked the minibar with sodas and water from a local store for less than the cost of one miniature coke. For New York or Paris, sure, but Marakech? We spent less at the Ritz in Shanghai, or the Mena House in Cairo, or the Windsor Golf and Country Club in Nairobi...you get the idea. If you travel to several cities in Marocco, its fun to stay somewhere like this, but only once. The other times you want to find the best Riads available. This place is cruising on its reputation.
Pool nice, historic, good location, public areas outstanding-spa, casino, restaurants, bars, it has it all.

Dan in the riad by AnneEscapes03 Beautiful architecture and tilework! Price was cheaper than a B&B in US. Jean Pierre made our stay very comfortable. He recommended places to go, landmarks to remember and how to navigate in the seemingly vast medina.
Indoor garden & fountain. Central location. Quiet.

View from the terrace of Villa De L'Atlas by JamalMorelli, 4 more photos My stay went from being centered around me and my hike to included the enjoyment of this truly unique hotel. It is a little hard to find - on the road to Imlil on the Imlil/Asni route there is a little sign by the side of the road (easy to miss) Once inside, there is a expanse of garden, apple and peach trees...heavenly.
The family Ramoun are exquisite examples of Moroccan grace and hospitality. You go a tourist and leave a friend. Fantastic views of the Toubkal Mountains, Hajja's cooking, lovely 'rouge mimouna' painted rooms. Their son has a car they use to drive their patrons around in... Grand Hotel, Ville Nouvelle, Fes by JamalMorelli Pleasant. It is really just a great location if you have any interest in digging around in the Ville Nouvelle. You have the lovely little garden park with the ducks and waterfall across the street and every modern convience in a modernish setting. This choice is for folks who just don't want much of the old medina and would prefer something more EuroAmerican. Lots of tourists here. UPDATE: Late night here has become a real stage for drunks and dopers to enact what hell feels like - almost every night. It is not safe right now after hours, so make sure if you are coming from the medina to head right in after midnight.
Right now their unique quality is not claiming responsibility for the aggressive drunks that fill the parking lot after midnight. Their impassive attitude could earn them a place in the State's current administration. Clean up your act, Grand Hotel!
