Certainly a quiet period in the area(end September) we were the only people in the hotel which made it even more peaceful. Very friendly welcome by Ahmed himself, made us feel really at home.Gave us a room that gave onto the rooftop terrace where we sat ouside to watch the sun go down over the Atlas mountains. A great view over the rooftops to the Glaoui casbah as well. Food at the restaurant was very good and cheap.Nice room done out in arabic style.Room was 150 DH and meal 65 DH (approx 14 and 6 Euros). If you are looking for a riad in Fez, you might want to check out the Fez restoration project which will help you in your search. You give them a price range and they contact the various riads to find out their availability and prices. They do charge a small fee of $25 to do it, but it saves a lot of time by not having to contact each riad individually to enquire about their availability. http://www.fez-riads.com/

We stayed at the lovely Riad Charqi during our stay in Fez. For a riad, it was on the less expensive side, but was wonderful none the less. The rooms are clean and the staff is more than helpful. They arranged for a taxi to pick us up from the train station. Our train got in an hour and a half late and the driver was still there waiting for us. The interior of the riad was spectacular and the roof top lounge was a great place to unwind after a long day exploring the median. It is localeted near a taxi stand which made things very easy and is about a 10 minute walk to the Blue Gate.

My stay here was one of luxury, my room was excellent. It was minimal but clean, spacious for a single traveller and with en-suit. At first i imagined over looking the main square would be noisy, however i was proved wrong. The restaurant is on the ground floor but you will be spoilt for choice on places to eat and drink. The shops are plentyful and brimming with tempting goodies and the local market/shops are near by too. This hotel was very comfortable and situated within minutes of the main square. They have all the facilities you need, however you may find too much going on in the evenings to use them. The souk is large, make sure you don't get lost but hay if you do have a good time haggling. You can ask if you get lost but they will be expecting you to cross their palms with money so get a price first. Les Matins Bleus is a cozy riad, a guest house in traditional moroccan style, placed centrally in the Essaouira medina (old town). We booked our rooms through hostelbookers.com and stayed here for three nights in July. We took a petit taxi from the CTM bus station to the entrance of the medina (cost: 6 Dirhams) and took a short walk to the guest house. Every thing of interest is near by: Shopping, dining, the moroccan every day life, great views of the sea, the port with the hectic fish market... We had a nice stay and will recommend it to others.
The riad is family driven and the staff is welcoming and friendly. They speak English, among many other languages, and they can help you with tour bookings etc. The rooms have their own bathrooms. The room was not very big, but it was charming and clean. The moroccan breakfast was included in the price and served on the roof terrace or inside. Pancakes and croissants - yummi :) There was no curfew or check-out time, which suited us perfectly. Hello, I am just back from three weeks in the desert in south Morocco, two weeks in the hostel and in the middle, one week in the middle of nowhere! and it's been so great I want to share it with you and warmly recommend the Kasbah who organised everything so well. It is my third and longest time there - up to now..., it is getting better all the time and I can't wait to get back. Isabelle and Rachid are a lovely French and Moroccan couple, they're fun, friendly, attentionate, keep an eye on all my needs and are very discreetwhen needed. The auberge is beautifully decorated, nothing flashy, clean, confortable. Isabelle cooks delightfully only with natural fresh products. When we are a few visitors together, we all share a meal together on big tables. When there is no one, you can eat with them. There is always a Youssef or an Accor to play cards with. In the evening, Rachid and his friends play the djembe and it can be fiesta time. At night, I can pull up a mattress and sleep on the terrace under the stars. You name it... Even Internet to see how friends are doing back home, at work! It just feels like being home with all the pleasures of being abroad. This time, I spent a full week in the desert. Incredible! I went with Said who drove the camel, cooked all my meals, kept the bedouin tent tidy, left me alone when wanted, and told me funny desert stories in the evening. Paradise, you said? Three nights, there were some hikers, the camel drivers played music for us and we had so much fun. Social life in the desert! So, don't hesitate, even for a few days, this is the best address for this kind of trip in this part of the world!
