BETWEEN ER RACHIDIA AND ERFOUD
by AsturArcadia
A couple of views taken from the P 21 main road, looking into the Ziz valley, between Errachidia and Erfoud. The sky and clod formations offer some indication of the exceptional weather conditions then being experienced north of the Haut Atlas.

This is the city I now live and work.
Erfoud is the last city before the desert if you come from Errachidia.
It's a big city for desert standards.
You'll problably get a guide if you go to Erfoud, cos as soon as you arriove you'll have hundreds of young guides asking if you want to go to the desert. I know a very nice guy called Omar Samghouli. Just ask for him in the city.
Erfoud is in the Tafilelt. This region used to be the most important place of departure for the cross saharan caravans. From the city of Sijilmassa, which is not far from Erfoud, they would leave for Ghana and Tombouctou. In the 14-th century the Genoans had an embassy here.
Since then things went down the slope gradually. Rissani is however the place where the present dynasty settled before they took power. The tomb of the founder of the Alaouite dynasty is still to be found here.
that's me drinking some tea on a tea house in the main square.
