Best (5.0 of 5.0 stars)
by written on May 29, 2008

A friendly, family-run kasbah, this is the favourite base to see the Merzouga dunes of the Sahara desert
Superbly located, right alongside the Merzouga sand dunes
Fabulous views of the dunes from the roof terrace
En suite rooms arranged around two pretty, plant-filled courtyards
Accessible by picturesque routes from either Fez (7 hrs) or Skoura/Ouarzazate (5.5 hrs)
Run by charming, extremely friendly Moroccan family, one of whom, Ali , has a degree in English ,french , spanish ,deutsch and italien.
Traditional earth building with attractive features, simply furnished
Responsibly managed and good value
Accommodation: Options to stay in either standard en suite rooms or suites

Meals: Good quality Moroccan dishes. We quote for half board but lunches or picnics are available at very reasonable prices.

Activities: Excursions to the dunes by camel or 4×4, with options of overnight stay in standard or luxury nomads’ tents. One day trek with camels (walk or ride): departure around 9 a.m. to a small oasis where you will have lunch, return to the hotel after sunset in the sand dunes. For the more adventurous, camel treks of up to seven days’ length may be arranged.

As well as trips to the sand dunes, we recommend you visit the Marmar marble works near Erfoud, where a superb black fossiliferous rock is polished and sold. Bird-watchers will enjoy this area, especially the lake Serji, when it has water (usually in the winter).

Unique Quality: Riad Ksarbicha in Merzouga, offers the best true desert experience,Whatever your dream, they can arrange it. Treks include all meals, desert bivoac with mattresses and bedding, camels !, and guide.
The Riad provides professional services in Airport transfers between (marrakech ,errachidia, ouarzazate, fes )and Merzouga desert. journeys to other cities in the great south of morocco.

Directions: Ksar Bicha palace is accessible with a small car , 2 km before merzouga village ,there is a sign indicating the 800 m of a good track the the hotel.

There are plenty of options for staying the night but if you arrive by about 1pm, you'll probably be able to get yourself on a trip to the dunes by camel without needing to sleep in Merzouga . If you do stay, ksar bicha hotel is a good and cheaper hotel, excellente food .it is such a relaxing place to chill out. Make sure you make a reservation, as one of the most unique places in Morocco, it gets busy (but is always quiet as people are off at the dunes or quietly relaxing somewhere
we Visited the dunes of Erg Chebbi, situated near the small village of Merzouga. Crossing the dunes by camel we reach our private berber-style camp. We stay in traditional Berber tents with comfortable mattresses and bedding, and rich carpets covering the sandy floor. During the evening we are entertained with songs and music of the desert. I recommend this hotel for his situation, good people we met and espicialy the delicious food...excellent

Unique Quality: We have just returned from a week at ksar bicha (our second time ). The hotel is magnificent and we have never experienced such incredible service before. It was so lovely that it was hard to drag ourselves away from the hotel to go to the oiasis at all. It was so hot and busy there, we couldn't wait to get back to the peace and tranquility of the hotel.
The camel rides is lovely, Our kids are 11 and 13 and they enjoyed it. Restaurants are great. We paid 80 euro per night for a room which we thought excellent value. There were 2 double beds so the four of us shared.
Overall I would say this is probably the best hotel we have ever stayed in on holidayand I am extremely fussy! Perhaps not the most convenient if all you want to do is theme parks, but if you want to mix a little luxury with the odd trip to the dunes then this is an absolute must.

Directions: about 35 km far from Rissani and about 2 km before to reach Merzouga village, there is a sign indicate the 1 km of a good truck to the hotel.
