Fish for the widows
It is traditional for widows to come to the port and wait for the boats come in because the men give them fish. If you are there at the right time of day, you will see these ladies waiting patiently with their baskets.

The second step for the production of Argan oil is to roast gently the almonds in a pan. On this picture, the pan is heated on a "Camping gaz" bottle. Traditionally, it was roasted on charcoal. It is really craftwork and not industry !
As we neared Essaouira, our mini bus pulled into a lay- by, so we could get a view of Essaouira and The Ile da Mogador plus The Atlantic Ocean.
This is quite a popular spot, so as you can see, these enterprising camel owners are ready to offer 'that special holiday snap' as you either sit on the camel, or venture a few steps.
Surprisingly, they weren't too forceful in their 'sales pitch' - just a general "would you like photo"? by one of them, then we were left alone!
I'm not sure if this was because we had a Moroccan guide and driver, or if they were usually so laid back!
In Essaouira you will find a very nice market for carfts -- Ensemble Artistanal. It is located right inside Bab Marrakech to the left.
In the market there is a beautiful square and surrounding this workshops with different kinds of craft: Bijouterie, wowen tissues, wood-works - and others. The things you can buy is of fine quality, and the prices are reasonable.
At the same time, you can be sure, that the the crafts are not produced using childrens labour.
In the workshops you can see how the things are made, the people working there like to tell about their work.
'Argania Spinosa' is a tree that is similar in appearance to the olive tree, but it is unique to this area of Morocco. The argan is a useful nut, as each part of it serves a purpose, but the highly prized oil is now being recognised as the 'new olive oil' for its culinary, cosmetic and health benefits, although Berber women have known of its benefits for centuries. I've recently noticed argan oil being used in some moisturisers on sale in Boots
A few miles away from Essaouira, (on the Marrakesh road) and towards Agadir, these Argan trees can be spotted, along with Argan co - operatives, where the nuts are processed by hand.
The area between Agadir and Essaouira is known as Le Pays de L'Arganier (The land of the Argan tree)
Look out for the goats that climb the Argan trees to graze on the fruit! ( Afraid I didn't spot any!) It used to be a money spinner for the goatherds, who would entice tourists to take photos for a few dh, but apparently this practice has been stopped by the authorities, as some goats had been found to have been tethered onto the trees!
