    rent an apartment

Ive been lucky that in my years of involvement with Morocco its been with Moroccans in the right places so Ive ended up with all sorts of special happenings and places to mould my love for this colourful country full of wonderful locations to enjoy life at

This is an apartment that has been decorated very contemporary style - rustic but stylish with all sorts of designer style items.....even a beautiful wooden 4 poster bed!!!...stylish lights placed in romantic places.....huge windows curtained by arty curtain hangers that open to early morning sunshine and some view of the sea to a nicely tiled bathroom with huge pise style sink.

The sofas are also heavy wood along with saharan writing on the walls and leather light covers that throw lovely designs out around the rooms.

    ...gorgeous place!

Unique Quality: Contemporary decor - pretty much everything you need here to be comfortable and youd be happy holed up for a day or a week....very romantic 4 poster bed and romantic lights in the main bedroom, a cute 2nd bedroom with twin beds, equipped kitchen, excellent bathroom with hot water, a huge digital tv with hundreds of satellite stations a large apartment complex just across the road from the beach and a few minutes walk from the port and centre of the old medina

Peak season rates are 500-600 dirham per night for the apartment - excellent value if for example the Gnaoua festival is on and you have 3 or 4 people to accommodate - during quieter times of year haggle and you can probably get this apartment for 300-400 dirham a night

Travelling late in the day from Marrakech to Essaouira

by manonthomas27

Our flight arrives at 5pm on oct 16th-could I get a bus from ess that evening? We're 2 women is it safe to travel in the evening?

Re: Travelling late in the day from Marrakech to Essaouira

You should be fine actually in terms of safety. Morocco for first time visitors would seem to appear daunting, unsafe and even dangerous but that's just as one's fleeting impression - its exoticism and sort of other-worldliness that Westerners especially unfamiliar to the place and culture would feel nervous about will soon disappear as you feel the rare and exciting pulse to the place. There are frequent buses to Essaouira from Marrakech and it takes a good two to three hours with many stops along the way. If you can get one by 5PM, you'll be in Essaouira in mid-evening. Try to see if you can hop on one of those mini-vans (or dolmus or petite taxi, I think they're called) with fewer passengers on board but will get you to Essaouira quicker than the bus.

Know also that in October, daylight is much diminished after summer, so you're travelling already in the cover of darkness. If I were you, I'd overnight in Marrakech and start out early to Essaouira, getting there much refreshed. But if extra cost/money plays a major factor in this travel, I'd consider taking the overnight bus to Essaouira and sleeping thru the trip.

Enjoy Morocco and happy trails.

The last bus leaves Marrakech at 7pm, and takes 3 hours and only one stop on the way.
You should expect to clear customs and collect your luggage in about 30 minutes, take a petite taxi to the Supratours bus station, about a 15 minute journey. So long as your flight is not delayed you should have plenty time.
You will not have a problem being 2 women.
If you have accommodation booked in Essaouira, the proprietor should be able to book you a private taxi to collect you from the airport, usual price 600-700Dh
Hope that helps

The following are the times for coach departures.
There is a stop halfway for snack and use of toilet facility.
Hopefully this will help you plan your trip.

Marrakech to Essaouira daily:

Essaouira to Marrakech daily:

Journey time ia 2 - 2.5 hours.
The price of the ticket is 65Dh but you really need to buy your ticket as soon as you can to guarantee seating, also when you arrive in Ess buy your return ticket immediately.
It has been known to happen that the return journey be ully booked in which case you may have to stay overnight or take a taxi back at a much higher cost.

Travel Tips for Essaouira

Seat of the province

Upon arrival on the sea front, on the outskirts of the city, the huge place in front of the seat of the Province of Essaouira is quite impressive. It has a superb white marble pavement. I feel it would be worth the sight to be there when there is some kind of celebration.

Orson Welles Square

by iwys

Orson Welles Square was opened in 1992 by the current King of Morocco to commemorate the 40th anniversary of Welles's "Othello", which was filmed here. To be honest, it's not a very attractive patch of ground and the Orson Welles memorial plaque has already been vandalised.

Beer Local Bar

by MITNIC about BAR

Is not a restaurant is a Beer- local- drinking place but were to pout it if not in restaurant tips… Not in night life tips because it close early.

Essaouira, the beach

by chrisvandenbroucke

Overcrowded is the word I can give to this beach.
It's almost impossible to find some free space amidst the thousands of locals and foreigners.

What really puzzled me was that the water was ice cold. The outside temperature in August was something about 35° C but the sea was icy. Cold Gulfstream passing by?

Even the most daring one of us could not stay in the water fro longer than 15 minutes

The North Bastion

by amsterdam_vallon

the Scala - the fortified place of the city - is breathtaking with its beautiful battery of canons pointing out to the sea.

This bastion was the main center of observation for the enemy boats.
