Very charming budget riad.

Riad nakhla is a very charming little hotel in the old part of Essaouira.
The place is very traditional and the rooms are fine and clean.
Staff is friendly and the place has an atmosphere that makes you feel like 1001 nights.
I really enjoyed my stay there and would highly recommend the place.

I might ad that the place has a lot of cats.
I met one mexican girl who was allergic to cats there and she sufferd a bit from all the cats.
I love cats on the other hand, so they were just a bonus for me :O)

Unique Quality: very arabic atmosphere.

  • Opinion of Price: less expensive than average

car hire and riad in essaouira

by ninjasmith

can anyone give me advice on how much car hire will be? is it easy to hire a car after we arrive in essaouira?

also we need a cheap riad for 6 people for a week (in july). what sort of price range will this be and is it adivsable to book on the internet or better to turn up and chance it and get hassled by touts.

riad nakhla is cheap and friendly and in a very good location.

Hello,
It is easy and cheap to hire a care in Essaouira, Just bring your full driving license. Car hire starts from 300Dh (£25) per day there is no mileage charge. You will find agencies around Moulay Hassan square and other places.

Regarding accommodation I recommend you contact carmitch49@hotmail.com
Carole has a delightful Riad in the Medina that can accommodate up to 10 people, you will find some photos on my Essaouira " Where to stay " page. Prices are from 600Eu for 6 persons per week.
If you need anymore help, please ask
Sue

hi thanks for the tips - especially the touts I think we will book before we get there. I should have mentioned we want a place that is self catering so we can stay in for a couple of our nights this rules out the first tip. windycity - where do I find your 'where to stay page'

Travel Tips for Essaouira

CTM bus to Marrakech

by earthflyer

Bus to Marrakech leave Essaouira at 17:00pm and arrives into Marrakech CTM bus station at 19:30pm.

Journey time about 2hr 30mins cost is around 60 dirhams plus 5 dirhams for luggage.

Please use times and prices for a rough guide only.

There are more local bus companies at the bus station leaving for Marrakech but they stop at the main Bus station in Marrakech not at the CTM bus station.

The Markets

by amyhenderson

The markets around Marrakesh are something that every visitor must do. Upon arriving to Marrakesh, we were approached by a French/Morroccon guy to offer to be our "guide" for the 3 days that we had in Morrocco. After talking him down more than half the original price, we decided we were getting a good deal. He rode around on his scooter and we followed him everywhere. My god, such a funny experience! And also he only spoke Arabic & French, so my schoolday French got us by with communication with him! He took us to some out of the way markets, where we were the ONLY foreigners. Children would stare, adults would touch my hair (I have red hair), chickens squawking, eyes roaming, marketstallers eyes begging for some (foreign) business. Our guide seemed to genuinely have our best interest at heart. He would not let us buy there because he said everyone would sell us things at extortionate prices. We rather go to the markets in the city where we can "copy" the prices of locals & foreigners alike. But just to go to these markets is great. All the colours, the pottery, the carpets, the teas, the foods, the smells, the sounds, the people... everything is just so different. From here, I felt like I was a world away from my comparibly cushy & luxurious lifestyle on the other side of the globe. Wow.

The casbah across the doorway.

by JLBG

The casbah shows across the doorway. The casbah is surrounded by the sea but does not open towards the sea. It was build all at one time. This why it has a very regular design, that it would not have if it had been built bit by bit, as it is usually the case in other towns.

Traditionnal pharmacy

by JLBG

There are others traditionnal pharmacy booth even more amazing that this one, unfortunately, I was not allowed to take a photo.

"Powder to get thin", close to "powder to get fat" ! elsewhere natural Viagra, called ''powder to climb on Suzette'' ! ...
