Beginning of building
by JLBG
This one is just at the beginning of its building with only the hull and the ribs. Each rib may be made f several pieces of wood but as often as possible, bend wood is used, which will be strengthen than if it had been cut bent in strait wood. One boat requires a few months to be built.
Diabat
by iwys
In the late 60s Diabat was a hippy commune, reputedly visited by Timothy Leary, Jimi Hendrix, Cat Stevens and other celebrities of the time. Now, it is just a Berber village, somewhat cut off from the rest of the world, although its past fame still attracts visitors to stay at such places as Riad Kaleido. You can reach it by walking south along the beach from Essaouira, then fording a stream, by a broken bridge. It takes about half an hour.
Restaurant Laayoune
by barryg23 about Laayoune
Laayoune is an excellent value restaurant where for less than 5 euro you can have an excellent 3-course meal and a drink. I didn't think it would be physically possible to have another 3 course meal after all I had eaten in Les Alizes the previous night but the menu was very tempting.
The harira and bread is a meal in itself while the tagine I had for main course was the best of the trip. We were the only diners here at first but by the end of our meal the place was packed and there was a queue outside. The Vegetable tagine I ate here was the nicest tagine I tasted all week. Absolutely delicious and you can get it on the 48 DH menu.
Views from the North Bastion
by sachara
The Skala de la Kasbah and North Bastion are great places to see the sunset above the cliffs and ocean (picture 1). From the impressive North Bastion you have nice views to all sides along the coast and of course at the ocean with the waves dashing against the cliffs (picture 3).
To the southwest you can look along the scenic Skala de la Kasbah with the cliffs, island and the fortifications of the harbour at the background (picture 2). In the northeast direction you have views at the rough cliffs and along the walls and buildings in the northern part of the medina (pictures 4 & 5).
Things to see from Skala du Port - Ice wagon
by suvanki
Looking over to the street below, there was plenty of activity. Including this wagon which was full of crushed ice. It was heading away from the fish market, so was presumably heading towards the fish stalls by the harbour, or maybe to one of the fishing boats.
I'm not sure what the boy was doing, maybe trying to get some of the ice for his basket.
