Singing in the kitchen at Ocean Vagabond
Thinking of trying Essaouira next summer. I've read reviews that state the wind can be very strong. Would the wind prevent a relaxing afternoon on the beach and in the sea? I read one review that said the wind was so strong that it prevented the reviewer from using the hotel pool. Would this be a regular occurrence? Beach, pool and doing nothing would be high on the agenda for this visit.
I've been to Essaouara several times at different times of the year and never encountered any problem with the winds.
I live in Essaouira, They don't call it wind city for nothing !! From the end of June to September it is generally windy, some days worse than others. Perfect if you like water sports. Ocean Vagabond and other places have sheltered sun bathing areas. You can hang out there all day if you buy a snack or drinks. The wind has a cooling effect, but you still need sun protection as the sun is stronger than you think.
I spend a week in Essouira with a fellow vt member a couple of years ago and i can´t talk about what it´s like at the beach as we never even thought about going there.
In my opinion there are just too many things to see and do in Essaouira to be dozing at the beach, but that is of course just my humble opion.

I agree with Cachaseiro!..though if its nice at the time it probably is nice to have time out and sit on the beach but have a look at my tips and page Dave on Essaouira - still not finished because theres plenty to see and do in this Unesco town....and if you want to go next summer and like music and culture time your visit for the annual Gnaoua festival - excellent to be there then - thats when we did sit beside the beach, with good Moroccan red wine, company and music!!
Essaouira is facing the Atlantic, so it's always going to get a lot of weather, that's part of it's charm. I have a clear memory of watching someone standing on the beach about 20m from the sea wtahcing the waves rolling in, for maybe 10 minutes. Suddenly a wave came in and although the person turned to retreat the water came almost up to their waist. It wasn't backwash from a boat, just a single much bigger wave that probably came 40-50m further up the beach than any other. It's that sort of sea. Wonderful to watch but dangerous too.
Tending to be regular only during its season which would be around the warm and summer months
And even outside of the windy season, the wind is there especially by the port side tho no longer as blustery
But the place is so unique and special no sooner that you forget all about the element
