Luxury with a view

We arrived at the doorstep of the Sofitel after several nights traveling across the High Atlas to the desert and back again, needless to say we were dusty, tired and chilled. Once through the doors of the Sofitel we were greeted by friendly helpful staff, mint tea, beautiful, haunting music and heat!! The time in the mountains and desert was the highlite of the trip but the contrast between that and the Sofitel made the latter feel like heaven on earth. Well worth the expense, try to get a room with a view of the ocean.

Unique Quality: Facing the ocean. Immpecable service. Great pool. Top notch Hammam.

Nice, but not authentic

Staying at a riad is by far the best lodging option in Morocco, if you are looking for authenticity. But, the Sofitel was otherwise great. The location was very convenient to the beach and the medina. Most members of the staff spoke English well enough to get by. (The picture to the side is the view from our balcony of the bustling beach)

by zabz1977

Hi,

i am planning a trip to morocco with my girlfriend for 10 nights. i want to split the trip into 5 days in a city and 5 days by the beach.

not being married will we encounter any problems sharing a room together

could some one tell me the best city and beach resorts and any 4/5 hotel recommendations.

ive been told that marakkech and agadir will suit my needs, is this true?

what is the best way to travel between marakkech and agadir.

Hello

If both of you are non-muslim tourists you shouldn't have any problems checking into hotels as non-married couple. Depending on your budget and when staying I would recommend Marrakech for 3 nights on arrival (shopping, eating and culture/palaces), then travel to Essaouira for 2 nights for beach holiday in pretty walled town of Essaouira for next 2 nights (old walled city much nicer than Agadir), travel south to Agadir for 2 more nights if you want to be amongst package tourist hoards on the beach, return to Marrakech via Atlas Mountains and stay 1 night in guest house in/near Imlil, then wind up again in Marrakech for 2 nights prior to departure. Check out www.maroc-selection.com for good choice of 4/5 star hotels and riads. My recommendtions: Marrakech - Riads/Traditional Moroccan houses set around courtyard: Riad Khabia, Riad Les Oliviers, Riad Ksiba or plush hotels...too many to mention! Essaouira- I stayed in Riad El Madina in Essaouira - very nice, but if you want poolside then you will need something like Sofitel Mogador. Lots of places to chose from. Transport from Marrakech to Agadir is by bus (Supratours from Marrakesh train station or CTM from Marrakesh bus station) or shared Grand taxi (from outside bus station). If you want a tailor-made itinerary with private transport, guide and sightseeing please contact me and I'll put you in touch with an agency in Morocco.

I'd agree sort of with the above, Essouara is much nicer than Agadir, where you really might as well be in Benidorm. And it's nearer to Marrakesh, a straight three hours on the bus. As to the rest of the itinerary suggested above, well you say you want five days in Marrakesh & five by the seaside...sound much more sensible than all that whizzing about.

I'd agree with TheLongTone, Marrakesh and Essouira is a much better short stay option. Agadir is worth a visit in winter when it has a more benign climate than Essouira, but in summer I'd suggest that Essouira is a better resort. It's unique laid-back atmosphere will contrast beautifully with the vibrant exotic pace of Marrakesh, where as Agadir is much like any European Mediterranean resort - beach restaurants and hotel nightclubs.
