Pre-book Taxi from RAK to Essaouira?

by greymoment

I would like to pre-book a taxi from Marrakech airport to Essaouira on arrival by the late EasyJet (19:20 so missing the last bus). Anyone know of a local taxi company or agency to arrange this in advance with an agreed price and assurance of reliable service?

Hi! Outside Marrakesh airport is a large taxi rank, with a board that lists set prices to the main cities and towns etc.

I'm sorry that I haven't pre-booked a taxi from the airport, but I'm sure that there will be someone along soon who has, and will have more info.

Have a Great time in Essaouira, it's well worth a visit.

Best Wishes,
Sue

Although there are prices listed for the taxi to various locations, taxi drivers blatantly disregard these and will apply their utmost devious tactics to overcharge you - sack them all!!

I'm sorry, but from my experiences of taxi drivers in Marrakech, they've mostly been OK.
On my second visit, I got a taxi from the airport to Marrakech and checked the price with the driver-it matched the price on the board- then when I arrived near my destination, he automatically organised someone to take me to my accommodation, with a trolley to carry my case.

On my first visit, I stayed in Gueliz, and used the petit taxis quite a bit. I checked the price with my hotel reception for the fare to Djemma el Fnaa, which should have been 10 dh, some drivers tried to charge me 20 dh, but if I held out 10dh, they accepted this with no problem. Also, if I said please (afak) and thank you (Shukran) or Thank You Very Much (Shukran Bessef)in Berber, the price was automatically dropped.
On the whole, I found the taxi drivers in Marrakech to be very helpful.

Travel Tips for Essaouira

The purpuraire islands

by JLBG

On these islands was extracted from a marine mollusk, the murex, the purple dye extensively used by the roman on their luxury clothes. This is why they were called "purpuraire" islands. For a long time, production of purple made the wealth of Essaouira.

Essaouira's annual Gnaoua Festival

by angiebabe

Every June Essaouira starts to really buzz - the year I was there for this annual music festival the place was full of happy holidayers on the beach enjoying the music from the performers from the stage set up beside the beach, along with the crowd at numerous outdoor restaurants and bars enjoying food and excellent moroccan red wine to great sounds.

We followed this with a relaxing hour or so in the beautiful courtyard of the Hotel Blue Heure along with Gnaoua entertainers before heading off to the entertainment in the main square. The next day was an excellent line up of groups such as Youssan Dor - with for example their international hit I'll Be Waiting.

An excellent festival and an excellent time to be in Essaouira.

A meal including a salad, a couscous or tajine, coke and tea sould cost approx. 70 Dh/US$7. Couscous or tajine... of course

Clock Tower

by matcrazy1

This square, a bit neglected, clock tower looked at first very old and stood by main street of the old town and together with city walls and the sun was my good orientation point.

Essaouira was founded over 3000 years ago as a Phoenician trading post. But unfortunatelly there are no remainings of that old time. The city exisitng now is much younger. The ramparts were designed by French architects over 200 years ago.

Visit the Skala

by pabertra

The skala is an old 18th century fortification that overlooks the ocean. It bears influences of Portuguese, French, and Berber architecture. It is a testimony of Essaouira's former days an important port and trading post in Northern Africa.
