Jbel Tifrnine and the col Tizi-n-Tinififft
by sachara
When you go from Ouarzazate to the Draa Valley and Zagora, you will first pass an impressive and barren mountaineous area. It is the Jbel Tifrnine, the most eastern part of the Anti Atlas.
When we took this route by hired car in 2008, we saw before we reached the col Tizi-n-Tinififft at 1660 m first black mountain slopes, blinking in the sun and deep cliffs. At the highest point we parked our car to look backwards to the breathtaking views in the direction of the High Atlas.
Then we continued in the direction of the Draa Valley. On the way we saw many colours of the minerals in the rocks. Following the descending road we saw long slopes with lots of rolling stones and dry valleys and from here we the first views at the Draa valley below.
I was surprised that I didn't remember how scenic this route was from the first visit 8 years before when we passed also these mountains with a landrovertrip coming from the other side. Then I realised that in the landrover we sat in the back and had limited views from the sidewindows. Sitting in the front seat in your own car gives you the best panorama view you can imagine. From now I think I will only travel in the front seat.
New Mosque
by call_me_rhia
The new town of Ourzazate is quite a nice place to gofor a little walk... it's very peaceful and the buildings, mostly pink, are nice and new (but not modern, luckily).
The most impressive one of the New mosque, with a very pretty mynareth. An inscription on a sign on its facade says (in arabic only, but luckily someone translated it from me) that king mohammed II and his wife had both stopped to pray at this mosque
From Ouarzazate to Tineghir
by amsterdam_vallon
The road is somewhat better but it still a lace road.
On this picture :
The kasba of Taourirt occupies a hillock close to Ouarzazate, within sight of the vast reserve lake of the dam El-Mansour Eddahbi, which feeds out of water and electricity all the area.
Since Ouarzazate was the starting point for the exploration of the region, you can see the rest of it on the Tinerhir page.

From left to right, Ismail and Hiroyuki.
It was really nice meeting you, Ismail!
Thank you very much for coming all the way to meet us to the Hotel Palmeraie.
It's New Year's Eve and thank you so much for spending time with us.
We met up at the reception and then we moved to the pub in the hotel.
But unfortunately it was too noisy to chat each other.
So we came back to the reception and enjoyed talking :-)
Ismail is raised in the beautiful village along the Kasba street.
We did see Ismail's home village, which is breathtakingly beautiful!
It was around 23 o'clock when we said Good-by.
Sorry...we intended to celebrate the new year together, but I and my husband became so sleepy at that time.
Oh, I regret.. we should have stayed longer with you... then we could have celebrate the new year together!
It was really nice meeting you!
Hope to see you again ... :-)
Now, Ismail and Ayuri
Smiling faces :-)
