By some odd coincidence, all the backpackers on the bus from Fes to Chefchaouen ended up in this place which shows it's fairly popular. We had a room at the front of the place on the first floor. Gernika is in very good condition and facilities have obviously been renovated not that long ago. Rooms higher up have twin beds but share showers and toilets (clean) while three of the rooms have their own very small but rather cosy bathroom with shower and toilet. Hot water was available throughout the day. Checkout the small mural of Picasso's painting 'Guernica' in the entrance just beside the front door. Be aware that this place can fill up quickly so get here straight from the bus if you haven't booked ahead.
This place is run by a Spanish couple and so some Spanish will assist you when you're booking in. We paid 180 dh for one of the more expensive rooms. A major plus here is the roof top terrace, a nice place to hang out and observe the streets below, women putting out their washing on neaby rooftops or the surrounding mountains. Sit here and just be quiet with your thoughts or get chatting with fellow travellers. We were also able to leave our luggage here while we killed a few hours in town before our bus to Tangier, guarded by the resident dog. The doggie here spends most of his time lying downstairs, only occasionally looking up to bark a 'hello'. Funnily he seemed to bark most at the faux guides bringing new travellers in, than the guests. Arriving from the bus station in a Petit Taxi you'll probably end up at the eastern square, Place el-Majzen. You'll be greeted by faux guides as ever, but you really don't need them to find Gernika. Follow the main route up east and keep following the signs until you get to Gernika on the left hand side. New, clean, beautifully decorated with incredibly friendly and genuine staff and owner. Each room is different and when we went we were given the choice of where we wanted to stay. Each room has an en suite bathroom with showers. A double room cost us 200 night which roughly equates to 20 euros (10 euros each).
The first night we where there the owners son TOOK us to a restaurant that he recommended to us and stayed to drink a tea with us and talk to us about Morocco and his life. The second night we were invited to have dinner with the owner and another man who worked there. They cooked us a lovely tagine and we stayed and talked with them until I was too tired to continue. This was one of my best experiences of Chaouen as I learnt a lot about how people really live here and there thoughts and feelings towards their foreign visitors and so forth. Every morning they made us a delightful breakfast with a choice of different things including local cheese and honey and natural orange juice. Theme: HotelComparison: about averagePhone: 039 988433Directions: It is located just off the of square where the Kasbah is. It can be a little difficult to find, but it is worth the effort. Take the passage way at the far end of the square opposite the Parador then turn right. Keep on going and you will get there.Other Contact: hotelkoutoubia@hotmail.fr

we staied for around ten days at this hotel for 100 DH a day (50 Dh/person). The hotel was nice with 3 shared clean Bath rooms. Extra hot shower will cost you 10 dh. The owner Ahmed was a very nice person along with his employee Aziz, Both were friendly and happy to help. There was a common living room with a TV, satelite dish and nice library with all sorts of books. There is a book exchange program at the hotel. A breakfast will cost 20 dh. In all these hotels in Chefchauen always pick rooms in the lower floar during the summer. It is much cooler. by earthflyer The hotel is just below the medina walls with good rooms amd nice views at the front but not at the back. The staff at the hotel are very friendly and also is popular with tourist groups. The hotel also has a restaurant with alcohol licence but at the time I visit it was not selling alcohol.

by Vaquerita Place is real clean, the cleaning lady has a sense of humor, smoking allowed! its got a nice community kitchen where people were totally willing to share food. i'm a smoker like most of those traveling to the Rif wink wink. and we sorta got in a little trouble there if ya know what i mean (getting caught with the kif is NOTsomething you want to happen to you dude!!!) and the owner helped straighten out a couple problems we had. its a real real cool place i'd totally recommend it to anyone. i think we paid about 12$ (american) for two personas per night in the month of june(?)
terrace, cheap, friendly personas, kitchen, close to the square. Theme: HostelPrice: less than US$20 » Currency ConverterComparison: about averageAddress: oh hell... so hard to find!Directions: in the old section of town...
