Hotel Taroudant: Old classic hotel to stay or to have a beer...
I stayed here when travelling on my own in February 2010 - right in the centre of town so it was fairly easy to find when I arrived in town in my car after dark though remembering the way into the centre with the one way road system in the dark took 2 attempts.
There is ample parking nearby with guardian overnight.
Paid 160 dirham (about £12) for a nice big room on my own with ensuite bathroom, tv and double bed - or it would have been 200 dirham for 2 - breakfast not included.
I didnt pay to have dinner there - it is still advertised as 70 dirham for a set menu but i was on a budget so not in the mood to eat that much and pay that much.
I got shown to the rooms so I could see the state of the rooms on offer before accepting - lots of character and colour with rooms on several floors around a courtyard with garden - also in the courtyard is a bar where moroccan men and tourists were sitting having beers - I didnt at all feel unsafe and my room had a good lock on the door!
Ive since been back to have a drink in the bar with friends (lemonade/sprite to add to a beer = shandy - while they have fully fledged beer of course!) and yes the local regular drinkers and drunks are hanging out there - as long as they are paying customers of course.

Riad El Aissi: Recommended place to stay out in the country
This is a beautiful place 3 km from Taroudant out in the country - if you are driving from Taroudant you actually go past the landmark of upmarket places to stay that is Gazelle D'or - but once you get here to see this place you wont mind at all saving a LOT of money by staying here instead of Gazelle D'Or!!
The driveway brings you through olive and orange groves - when we arrived at the main building there was a huge stunning area ablaze in different colours of bougainvillea - then round to the main entrance past sitting areas under vine leaves and more bougainvillea - adorned with interesting huge terracotta pots and so - entering the reception area brings you to a pleasant and airy bar and breakfast area - then on out to the accommodation areas you pass pools of fish, more gardens with flowers and trees which provide cool shade during the spring and summer time but also privacy when Im sure at peak times there is a lot of people here.
The accommodation areas are also beautiful - rooms with ensuites and salons - sitting areas for your own room or apartment or to share with a neigbouring guest - all in tasteful Moroccan style.
Out to the impressive huge and blue pool facing out to the Atlas mountains in the background - all a most beautiful place and setting.
Didnt stay but we came to see this as it was recommended by a business acquaintance at his suggestion for a place to stay for friends of ours being encouraged to come visit Morocco!
The management were professional and pleasant and everywhere I looked it seemed clean and all efforts attended to.

Chambres D'hotes les Amis: budget and clean place to stay
This places is a bit of a Godsend for budget travellers visiting Taroudant - apart from shopping around and haggling for a cheaper apartment with the luxury of having cooking facililies and TV or the landmark Hotel Taroudant right in the centre of town for about 230 dirham for 2 without breakfast - this place is a gem for only 160 dirham for 2 or 90 dirham for 1 with breakfast!
Its about 10-15 minutes walk from the town centre but easy enough a walk, or catch a taxi or caleche if you must or have luggage, beautifully run - ie its full of Moroccan arts and crafts decorating it and lined with decorative and crisp clean tiling so the place is full of character.
If youre travelling by car or motorbike theres heaps of parking right across the road.
There are several double and triple rooms on each of the 3 floors that open to a central sitting area and separate bathroom and toilet on each floor, then there is the roof set up for breakfast which was a lovely place to be on our spring mornings in April surrounded by potplants in ornate pots and lovely views out to the countryside.
There is a mosque right next door and even though the call to prayer broadcasts at the usual times during the night we werent disturbed by it.
Shared bathrooms are sometimes a bit of a bugbear but for the budget price quite to be expected - and at least its always been clean - there is one huge step up to it and one has to remember that when coming out if paying a visit half asleep in the middle of the night!!
Cheery, clean!!, pleasant management and atmosphere, great budget price which includes a nice coffee, bread and jam breakfast, lovely roof area to relax over breakfast
Said the proprietor is a lovely local Moroccan guy and also a qualified guide for trekking and walking, he can also arrange bike hire, airport pickups from Agadir airport about 45 minutes away(about 300 dirham) and any meals in addition to the standard but sustaining breakfast up on the roof each morning.

Hotel Tiout: The hotel I liked best in Morocco
I was very happy indeed at the Hotel Tiout (and in Taroudannt generally).
I slept well, because the rooms were warm (this was in December - there's air-conditioning for summer), the bed was comfortable, there were decent bedclothes.
The people were kind (e.g. in finding a room even when I forgot to show my reservation) and helpful (in getting me a caleche, in suggesting where to go, in always having time to chat, in making lunch for me when I arrived in the middle of the afternoon, in arranging for me to have a room on the ground floor when they realised my ankle was jiggered...)
The furniture (chairs, carpets, light-fittings, etc) was good. As opposed to the cheapskate stuff I was faced with in many other places. These things make a difference.
It was very easy to find. Clear signs, and you end up in a large private car park in front of the hotel near the middle of the old city. There's a nightwatchman who looks after the cars, but if you want to tip him you should do it the night before, because he goes off duty at the crack of dawn.
The food was good, esp. breakfast. Pity no alcohol though - I had this problem everywhere in Morocco!
Comfort, helpfulness

Riad Hida / Hotel Palais Riad Hida: What a gem of a place
Riad Hida was an absolute gem of a place to stay. It's about 40kms from Taroudannt at Ouled Berhil (often shortened to Berhil). We spent two nights here and were sorry it wasn't longer.
Berhil is a shabby looking town and we wondered what we'd let ourselves in for, especially as the signpost directed us up an local, unmade road in the middle of the town, which felt as though it went on forever with no sign of anything other than local houses. In reality we probably drove for about 5 mins up the road. However, once we got there, we couldn't have been more surprised. Riad Hida was the most fantastic oasis; peaceful, quiet and tranquil place to stay.
The staff were wonderful, friendly and made us feel very welcome during our stay.
We ate at the restaurant both evenings (breakfast was included) and the food was good local fayre. We were surprised to be offered beer and wine at very a reasonable price. Their olive oil is the best we've had - we were told it's produced on their own estate. They were flexible and accommodating enough that we were able to tell them in the afternoon what we would like for dinner that evening.
There is a large, modern swimming pool set in amongst the delightful gardens with peacocks roaming around. There are several places to sit and relax, read, play cards etc.
We believe the riad was orginally a mansion for a rich man. We were initially offered a room in the old mansion but it didn't have air con so we asked to move, which wasn't a problem. In fact nothing was too much trouble.

Hotel Taroudant: great value
The Hotel Taroudant used to be owned by a French lady. She took loving care of it. From the front, it just looks like a modest hotel on the main square, but inside the rooms, on two levels, are arranged around a beautiful courtyard, full of trees and shrubs. There are tables and chairs around it, so you can sit in front of your room, overlooking the greenery.
The rooms do not have fans or AC, but they have high ceilings, designed to keep them cool. The hotel has a good restaurant, and beer and wine are available in the hotel's French-style bar, if you just want to have a drink in the courtyard.
I paid 140 dh per night for a double room. It was excellent value, as this has to be one of the best budget hotels in Morocco.

All i can say is that the Tiout Hotel is really a nice place. I recommend it for people with limited budget. Reasonable prices and good services, quite and calm area, no traffic noise.
Air conditioning, nice view, another restaurant is attached to the hotel with outstanding services, drinks and food.
