Viewing a MacAnthony property near to Tetouan........ any ideas, advice etc?
by grahamNI
Hi dear VTers!
I plan to visit the Tetouan area next weekend to view new housing developments from a company called MacAnthony Realty based in Malaga.
Has anyone heard of this company?
Does anyone know about their activities in Morocco?
Any advice, with good or bad news is most welcome.
Seems that I will be flying into Malaga and taking a helicopter transfer to Ceuta, out on Friday, back to the UK on Sunday.
Many thanks,
G.

HI and thanks for your post.
I enjoyed my time in Morocco and would like to see more of the country.
With luck and some planning, it would be good to see the areas of Morocco when you operate. There are currently no direct flights into Tetouan from the UK...... though I hear that some are planned for 2007.
The visit went very well........... Macanthony were good hosts and we saw Morocco in a very postive light.
If you have any specific details of property in the areas you mention, please feel free to email them to me here on VT.
Many thanks,
Graham.

To buy in this part of Morocco is ok, but I would prefer the another part, in the south of Tanger, has better infraestructure, and the prices much cheaper. About MRI don´t believe anything they tell you, like the rental is gonna cover your mortgage, this is absolutely stupid, or the capital apreciattion is more than 20%, ***, it is around 5-10%. Be carefull what are you buying, consider that the date for completion probably will be delay and probably the development won´t look in completion exactly how they will tell you now.
Just one more thing, the MRI comisions in many of the resales properties in Spain is more than 10%. The average with another companies is 5%, even 2 or 3% in many local agencies. Be aware.

How to transform from Fahrenheit to Celsius? Deduct 32, divide by 9 and multiply by 5.
Example: 85 Fahrenheit, minus 32 = 53, divided by 9 = 5,89 by 5 = 29,4 Celsius.
Friendly guiding
by matcrazy1
When I was walking in the medina only one Arab boy asked me in English whether I need a guide. When I answered him no, he said ok, no problem and went away.
As I heard Tetouan long had a highly deserved reputation of being the least tourist friendly of all Moroccan cities despite its architectural charm.
But just like in another important tourist destination, Marrakech, police has hit hard on "unfriendly guiding". What's that? Imagine men who follow you around (guiding) trying to get you into their cousin's art shop (unfriendly), and charging hefty tipping for simply following you around.
Running Shoes !
by freya_heaven
Jogging or at the very least speed walking, really helps to get away from the hawkers who will follow you around endlessly, not matter how many times you politely say "No Thankyou"......................... Comfortable shoes for quick getaways also many of the paths and streets are not in great condition.
Architecture - Andalusian influences
by matcrazy1
I found Tetouan a quite large city with a center/downtown located in a valley and suburbs on surrounding hills. It's a mixture of various architectural styles including typical North African Muslim and European - Spanish or more exactly Andalusian architecture. The variety of architecture found there reflects an interesting history of the city.
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
- 3rd century B.C. - beginning of Tetouan as a settlement called Tamouda,
- 42 A.D. - destroyed by Romans,
- 1307 the Merinid sultan Abu Thabit constructed a kasbah (castle)
- 1399 - city under power of Castilian king Henry III
- from 15th century under the Andalusian influence
- 1913 - the capital of Spain's protectorate
- 1956 - independence of Morocco.
Old Medina
by Doctor38
The old madina is on the UNISCO world heritage sites since 1997. Tetouan loaction was a site for human seattlement since the Phenicians. The modern history of Tetouan started in the late 12 th centruy when a kasbah was built @ this stie By Sultan Youssef Ben Ya'qoob Almareenin The city really floarished due to the immegrants from Andalucia who escaped the religious prosecuation of the Spanish kingdom.
The city is still keeping its old charm throgh its traditional architecture and has that unique charcter that you can still see when you visit the old houses, mosques, schools, Sqayat (public fountains), kasbah, walls, gates and markets. Teouan has unique narrow alleys and beutiful doors.
