Day tour Casablanca/Rabat?

by loum140

We will be in Casablanca just for the day (a group of 5) and would like to visit Rabat then return to Casablanca. Can anyone recommend a reliable tour company or guide? Thank you.

Frequent and very fast ONCF train service Casa-Voyageurs to Rabat - the principal station here is adjacent to the old part of the city - an agreeable walk of about 2 km thence to the coast, overlooking the cemetery. Train fares cheap.

otherwise go to the taxi station/grande taxi station and do a deal with a driver to hire him and vehicle for the day - a grande taxi is a 6 seater mercedes diesel car - it really shouldnt be any more than 600 dirham plus his meals - even he asks for fuel on top it will be a good way for you all to go see the sights and sites - with a guidebook such as the Lonely Planet on MOrocco and DK eyewitness guide you can easily do without a guide

- you could see a lot by having him drive you around to the various sites - they are all a bit of distance apart, such as the Chellah, Kasbah des Ouadias, Mausoleum of Mohammed V, including a visit to Sale,

and there are a few out of town you could enjoy such as the Jardins Exotiques 13 km north of Rabat, 5km further on to the excellent private museum Musee Dar Belghazi and then to the nice beach of Plage des Nations - its turn off is opposite the Musee Dar Balghazi.

Travel Tips for Casablanca

visit the mosque Hassan...

by MProcher

visit the mosque Hassan II.

It is not the most beautiful building of the 20th century in Morocco but the hugest one.

The mosque requires many superlatives for itself:

height 185 m (highest religious building on earth)
area with 40000 sqm
building with 20000 sqm
built 'over the seas' (in the Coran it is written that Allah has his thwron over the waters - what means life not the Atlantic ocean!)
a 40000 sqm sized fundament plate made of concrete based on thousands of pillars in the ocean
costs: estimated 500 million $ - an unbelievable amount for a poor country like Morocco
financed by donations from foreign governments, from private people (rumours say it was not 100% their free will), and more than 50% on credit

Guide Ali is on the left...

by pjallittle

Guide Ali is on the left waiting for Ann and I to catch up to Ralph and Catherine who are seen halfway down the road.

Note that Ann is at the door of the Mercedes auto which transported us, no doubt flirting with the driver. We had all threatened to trade Ann for Camels, it was just a standing joke.

A rare occasion, indeed, I am actually taking the picture.

Ten carpets and 5 camels as a trade? Fair?

Golf and horseriding

by matcrazy1

If you want play golf or ride a horse go to the Anfa Royal Golfclub. It was located close to the airport. I didn't do it. I only have seen many commercials in Casablanca. I paid attention to them because a few years before I liked to watch golf in satellite television and surprisingly I watched some highly ranked tournaments in Morocco.

Hmm... I can only imagine me playing golf there with a world's highest minaret of Hassan II mosque in the background.

I like to carry my Little Toolkit around with me when preparing a new page. I don't really have a handle yet on preparing entire pages off site, I know it can be done but when you're working on site, it is easier to see what is going right, or WRONG, right now.

These tools make it simple when it comes to Colours, lines, banners, and there is even an HTML guide. Should anyone wish to use these or want to get the codes for similar use, they are as follows:

LINES ~ BANNERS ~ HTML (copy and add code appearing below to front)

To either of the above, simply copy, paste and add a href=> then < at the very front.

Casa Voyageurs

by iaint

Most trains arrive/depart from Casa Voyageurs station - as opposed to Casa Port. Not that it's a big operation!

I didn't see much to buy as far as food/snacks are concerned - bring your own, I guess.

Announcements (mostly delays!) were pretty clear if you speak Arabic or French.

What they really need on the PA system is a good blast of the Crosby Stills & Nash epic - Marrakesh Express.
