airport tax free

by jonas22

Hello to everyone!

I go to Marrakech this September and I have two questions:

1. Does Marrakech airport has duty free shops on arrival? I would like to buy some sigarettes,

2. What are prices for Moroccan and international sigarettes in the city?

Thank you for your help!

Hi Jonas,
I don't have answers to your questions, but I too am off
to Marrakech in September, and would like to hear other members answers.

Jon.

There are not too many international brands, Marlboro & Dingily cost 32 Dirham, Fortuna costs 20 Dirham per packet of 20, Moroccan brands are cheaper.
There are a couple of duty free shops in the departure area only.

yes nothing much in the way at the airport - as Windcity says Moroccan brands are only 20 dirham a pack but if you go to Marjane the big supermarket chain Marlboro lights and so on are cheaper - good place also for Morocco's rather good selection of red wines and beers - cheap brands of vodka etc are pretty cheap too

Prices at the airport are higher. Normal you pay in the city 32 dihrams for a pack. If you need a good contact for a very reliable and honest taxidriver or some information on there, please send me an e-mail. We just arrived from there. The food there is very poor in the hotels, but outside them take care with the quality. Good luck

Travel Tips for Marrakesh

Butchers

by sue_stone

The butchers shops that we saw in the Medina were nothing like the butcher shops we have at home! These small stalls located right on the narrow, dirty streets have all the meat just sitting out on display. There were sides of meat hanging about, with giant testicles dangling off them - eeuuww.

Although the quality of the meat looked ok I'm not sure that I would want to buy it after it had been sitting there getting covered with dust all day. The local cats seemed to be particularly delighted by the displays of meat, congregating below the shop counters hoping that the butcher would throw them down an off-cut.

There was one shop that appeared to specialise in offal, and we walked past it twice over the course of about 4 hours - both times the same cat was sitting there, head craned up, drooling over the dangling innards, hoping some would come its way.

Take a side-trip and explore...

by Krystynn

Take a side-trip and explore the OURIKA VALLEY... a place where the Berber tribe were thought to originate from.

Photo Below: That's me having breakfast at the home of a wonderful Berber family right here in the Ourika Valley. Mint tea, anyone?

Simple, but good!

by li-anne about Fast food al-Ahbab

Situated in the busy Rue de Bab Agnaou, you can't miss this small restaurant. This big signs are attracting you towards the entrance. We decided to give it a change.
We weren't disappointed at all.
You have to go up the narrow steps, and on the 1th level they have some tables.
This place looks like it hadn't been cleaned for a long time....
But the food was delicious, fast served and not expensive.
It seems to attrack a lot of young people and family's. The chicken baguette, with small pieced of roasted chicken, with salad and vegggies in a big baguette bread. Served with french fries.
You'll get at least 3 types of sauces separated from this dish.

The Souks

by realde14

The Souks of Marrakech are plenty of people, colors and aromas. It is easy to get lost (which I think is the fun part of visiting a souk), and the quantity and quality of the products sold is amazing. Prices are more reasonable than in other cities; you obviously still will need to negotiate and haggle.

Scarves

by keeweechic

In all the Souks you will see stalls with colourful scarves made up of cotton and silks. Pashmina’s come in a range of plain colours and striking patterns. There is good quality and bad so choose carefully.
