A Gem in Marrakech
We thoroughly enjoyed the Marrakech experience, staying in the old Medina at Dar Habiba. We were welcomed by the charming Kaoutar with mint tea on the terrace; the meal the first night was excellent, featuring a local tagine, and the accommodation a quiet and comfortable oasis only metres from the exotic and colourful souks.
We travelled for eight weeks and stayed in a variety of accommodation but Dar Habiba was our favourite stopover. Nowhere did we experience the friendliness, the helpfulness and professionalism of the staff more than at Dar Habiba. Our thanks to Kaoutar and Najat. We will certainly recommend it to friends.
An absolute gem
This place really is lovely. The staff gave a very personal touch and did everything they could to make our stay as enjoyable as possible. It is also a beautiful little place in a great central location within easy walking distance around old Marakech. We had a fabulous stay - thank you!
We booked our stay in November 2008, before the website had been fully constructed. We were very pleased with everything that the Dar Habiba team did for us. The booked taxis were on time, the accomodation was beautiful, the room was comfortable and the food delicious. Kaoutar, Najat, Aicha and Afifa made us feel very welcome and looked after us like important members of their family. We enjoyed the bits of cultural information they gave us and the sampling of typical Moroccan meals. A trip into the Atlas mountains arranged for us was something not to have been missed. When we left we felt as though we were leaving close friends.
Arriving into Dar Habiba from the noise and bussle of the streets, to be welcomed by warm and friendly staff, invited to drink mint tea in the beautiful and tranquil courtyard was such a great first impression. but it only got better - home cooked food served on the roof terrace, staff always on call to meet your every need and then the Hammam - to be scrubed and oiled so that your skin feels like new - the whole expereriece was wonderful and to top all that its location is perfect - just minutes from the central square and all the shopping, restaurants, cultural and sightseeing you can manage, we loved it and will be back.
Beyond imagination- The perfect riad
First, Alastair the owner, an amazing person, responds to emails whithin seconds, answers all your questions, polite and considerate, makes you believe that good still exists in the world, than the riad's staff, Koutar the manager, Najat the deputy manager, Afifa housekeeping and the "Tabacha" (cook) Aisha, all are speaking perfect english (maby not Aisha), smiling from the bottom of their heart no fake, you know they mean when they say they are at your service, you can ask them for anything you just think of and they fulfill all your dreams, so don't hesitate to fill like home, this riad is home away from home.
I recommend to order dinner or lunch to be cooked especially for you by Aisha the best cook of Morroco that will wait for you on your arrival, best tajin or tanjia and I say it as a morrocan descendant to morrocan parents.
The riad, ohhh, let your eyes see it first-hand, Get up early and have good fresh morrocan breakfat on the roof (included), this is a moment you won't forget, you have my word for it.
We ordered the koutubia suite that is big, spacious and beautifull, bathtub utensils all made of morrocan brass and the musaic on the floor is like a scene from arabian nights.
To summarize, I'd say, whithin few months this riad is going to be 24/7 fully booked so enjoy the fact it started running on november 2008 and not many people yet heard about it.
Well done Alastair, you have built the pearl of the orient.
Absolutely Perfect - great location, amazing service and clean and comfortable accommodation
I am just back from my trip to Marrakech and my stay at Dar Habiba and cannot find enough positive words to describe what a wonderful experience it was. This was my first time in Marrakech and I was traveling alone so felt quite apprehensive and nervous about the trip. From the moment that I arrived the staff at Dar Habiba looked after me as if I was not just a client but also a friend. They made me feel instantly at ease. They arranged for my airport transport and the driver was waiting for me as expected. I was escorted by staff from the taxi to the riad so as not to get lost in the medina. A delicious traditional Moroccan dinner was also waiting for my arrival as planned. Incidentally, the food at Dar Habiba was the best that I had while in Marrakech and is highly recommended. I stayed in the Habiba room which was very comfortable and impeccably clean. Kaoutar, the manageress, was beyond generous with her time making the effort to show me around the souks and helping me to find the Moroccan furniture that I was in search of. The riad itself was in a great location only a short walk from Jemma el Fna and the various souks. There is also a private hammam on site which was a relaxing and fantastic experience.
In summary, you would be foolish not to stay at Dar Habiba while in Marrakech as it offers great value for money and a level of service that is first class.
Dar Habiba was everything I wanted and more. It was a relaxing retreat from the chaos of the Medina, with helpful, kind and accommodating staff. All my questions beforehand were answered quickly by email, and Alistair and Steph the owners were very friendly. I stayed in Berber, which was a clean and pretty little room. At night there were candles placed around the pool which gave it a very romantic and calming atmosphere. This Riad is excellent value for money, especially as it has its own Hammam and plunge pool.
Dar Habiba is a peaceful and charming haven in the midst of the medina
We spent Christmas at Dar Habiba and it was wonderful. After delayed flights and lost luggage we were quite reluctant about what would come next, but when Katouar welcomed us with thé à la menthe and homemade chocolates we felt at home right away. The room is beautifully restored with just the right mix of traditional design. Apart from the only five minute walk to Jemaa el Fna and the Bahia Palace starting the day with a breakfast on the beautiful roof terrace with a view over the other roof gardens and birds singing it is the perfect place for relaxation. We would love to come back!
Just simply excellent!
Dar Habiba for us was excellent in many ways; location was perfect, an oasis in the middle of the medina madness, very relaxing and calm after a busy day in the hustle and bustle. The rooms were very clean and romantic. The staff were very very helpful in accommodating us in booking restaurants (emailed me a list of recommended, very useful!), Najat is certainly an asset to the riad as she made us feel very welcome and organised a hamman & massage (highly recommended!!).
The breakfasts were great sitting on the roof terrace 5 stars!
An absolutely Perpect and Special place
Dar habiba is indeed a speacial place. It is really central and really peaceful a beautiful haven amongst the hustle and bustle of the square. All the staff were really lovely and they made my birthday extra special in many ways. Najat is a real asset and will help you out with everything from booking tables for dinner to arranging cabs for trips. I highly recommend getting a "Hammam and a Massage" on site. It's a real treat and just adds to the overall realxing, beatutiful stay we had. i will definantly retunr one day.
