Taking Photos
by Firestar24
This advice isn't unique to Morocco, but it's the first time I've been brave enough to try it and it worked a treat:
I always look in travel magazines and books and am amazed at the magnificent photos - my travel photos always kind of looked like the typical "this is me on the balcony" "this is me on the beach" kind of thing, and I always read that you were supposed to ask someone if you could photograph them and then show them the picture and offer to send them a copy. Language barriers have always been my excuse before hand (although really it's because I'm totally shy!) but in Marrakech I was supposed to be practising my French.... so off I trotted into the souks and there were all these really great displays and I just thought - "well, why not?!".
Whispering a nervous "Vous permettez?" and gesturing with my camera at the vendor pictured earned me a cracking shot AND a free pastry!!! And that was before I even showed him the snap :)
Well!!!
That was me off snapping for England after that and I got talking to some lovely people and got some wonderful shots to boot.
Check them out!
High into the mountains by taxi
by 1desertrose
We negotiated with an extremely pleasant "Grand Taxi" driver to take 4 of us on a trip to the Ourika Valley for the day. We stopped on the way to see a typical Morroccan house, to take pictures of beautiful landscapes, visit the waterfalls.and have lunch. We asked him to show us the Menara Gardens when we got back to Marrakech.
The next day he took two of us to Ouarzazate to see all the Kasbahs on the way - a 12 hour trip and we found he was a courteous, considerate and safe driver. In terms of cost we paid 1000 dirhams for the second trip which we felt was excellent value.
Mohamed Douissi was an excellent guide and we highly recommend his services. His telephone number is 062 73 8\97 45 and his taxi is number 1515. If you contact him beforehand he could pick you up from the airport and organize your city visit.

I don't know much about them but I do know the knots per inch or cetimeter count ie the more in general the better, they were able to show carpets fron all across morocco, they were beautiful, I did not buy one then and there (didn't have the cash but I did reserve one they will ship direct to you. Oh and the views fronm the roof of the shop are stunning!
Storytellers in Djemma El-Fna
by tafurojo
Ok, so maybe not everyone will understand what they are saying; however, watching the Storytellers in action is quite an interesting site. Be sure to have a few dirham to give to them if you stay for awhile or decide to take pictures.
The Pink City

"Assault on the senses"
Marrakech has so many sights, sounds and smells that it is little wonder why so many people over time have been left enchanted. The pink buildings and Atlas mountain skyline render it unforgettable, and the industry of every man, woman and child seems to put Western Europe to shame. From sunrise to the fantastic sunsets, Marrakech really is an assault on your senses.
