marakech's worst hotel

One of the most horrible hotels I've ever stayed in. It seemed to me that its guests were made up of tour groups rather than individuals - ie. people who have to stay here, rather than staying by choice.
We had 'disco' music blaring out throughout the whole hotel until past midnight on both of our nights. We had to go out for breakfast rather than have the watered down coffee and diluted orange juice with stale pastries.
Stay here at your peril.

Good 2-3 star hotel to have as a backup

Ive stayed here three times when our usual first choices were full - and particularly if weve been in need of airconditioning so this place is good value especially in the summer heat and during Ramadan - the 6pm breakfast - to break the fast - was fantastic.

Has a small pool up on the roof with nice views of the nearby park.

As a Moroccan run hotel, but European style, it may be hit and miss - but generally its been clean and 3 star quality - Ive since read mixed reviews but as with travelling around Morocco theres always a possibility of being disappointed with an unclean bathroom etc - but if thats the case point it out immediately and the problem will be attended to immediately.

We paid 330 dirham/£20 each time we stayed there - with breakfast included - the last visit was 2+ years ago

Accomodation

by bronagh_gilmour

My fiance and I are going to spend a few days in marrakesh soon, and would ideally like to stay in a riad or apartment. We have been told that as he is moroccan and we are unmarried we cannot stay together in the same room. Does anyone know if this is true, and can anyone advise of somewhere that we could stay together. Thanks in advance.

many places wont let you only take one room ie you must rent two rooms and then discreetly stay together in one. usually it is the more expensive hotels that get away with just one room if with a moroccan and without a marriage licence. hotel harti and hotel toulousaine in marrakech will usually let you get away with one room. and ive never heard of it being just a matter of showing rings. its about having the actual documents to prove it or the actual hotel is already in the position of allowing couples to get away with it. as many hotels just simply wont anyother way.i know from friends that there is a circuit of hotels around morocco that moroccan men know which hotels they can take their foreign ladies to on their travels without having to pay double.

i have never heard of it being just a matter of showing some rings - its generally either show papers or pay for two rooms. usually its more expensive hotels that allow an unmarried moroccan to share a room, eg hotel harti or hotel toulousaine in marrakech do or it is simply having to pay for two rooms. i know from friends there is a circuit of hotels around morocco that morrocan men know where they can stay with their foreign ladies on their travels.
